Hello!

I have a Bachelors degree in IT Networking, CCNA, and some work experience. I am a U.S. citizen, however my mother is Greek. I was also born in Germany. Is there anyway for me to become a European citizen or dual citizen??? Im seeking permanent employment in Europe and do not wish to contract. Thanks for any input.

Right now my options are;
1. study in the UK and sort things out once im there
2. pray for a company to sponser me for a work permit
3. become an EU citizen based on my parents
4. transfer w/American company (2-3yrs wait)
5. HELP!!!!

Hi,

If your mother is Greek, I suppose that you would qualify for Greek citizenship. Contacting the closest Greek Embassy or Cosulate to where you live in the US could be your best bet to get some more information on this.

As regards Germany, the fact alone that you were born there does unfortunately not make you eligible for German citizenship. German citizenship laws are still based mainly on descent; only individuals who have lived there for a considerable number of years (8 or more) may qualify for citizenship by naturalization (i.e., without having a German parent/grandparent).

If you manage to find a German company that is interested in your set of skills but hesitant because you are not able to show a German work permit, you may want to look at our new 'assessment certificate' service (http://www.workpermit.com/certificate.htm).

Best of luck!

Hi Marcis!

Thanks for your input. I will check with the Greek consulate and if I have no luck, I will defintely do the assessment certificate.
