Hi,

So, you're thinking of moving to Ireland eh? Very good choice, amazing country, I love it! Well, assuming that you have no ties to Ireland,(parents, grandparents, spouse,or any other way for citizenship) the route is work permits. This process can take a very long time to sort out, mine took 4 months for approval.
The way it works is that you have to find any employer who then applies for the permit on your behalf, you can't do so on your own accord. The employer also pays for the permit, I think it's 400 Euros now for 12 month permit and a permit is good for up to a year only, then you must renew it. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to speed up the process, you have to wait.(which can drive you and everyone around you insane--ask my friends!! .
However, certain jobs are so understaffed in Ireland that there is a special program set up for such fortunate people called a "Work Authorization" which is a quicker/easier and longer duration of approval. If you work in IT, nursing, doctor, town planner, architect, engineer, surveyor. I THINK that these authorizations are granted for 2 years, but I'm not sure.
Check out the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment for full details re. work permits/authorizations and citizenship. Good luck. Cheers!
