Dear Jeannie,

To answer your question, it would be important to know what is your nationality. If you are a UK citizen, you do not require a work permit in Germany (EU citizens may work in Germany without a work permit).

If you are a citizen of the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, you may travel to Germany and stay there up to 3 months at a time without having to apply for a visa or residence permit. During this time, you may look for a job in Osnabruck. If you manage to find a German company willing to employ you, they will have to apply for a work permit on your behalf. The work permit application procedure takes 2-3 months on average, so presumably you would have to leave Germany while your application is being processed. The employment office in Germany will examine whether it is not possible to fill the position that you are applying for with a German jobseeker who has the necessary skills and experience required for the position. Only if they do not find a suitable candidate, you will be granted the German work permit. (If you are from the UK, all this does not apply to you!)

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions.
