Hey there,

Just to get things straight, you are from the US and you already have a work permit for a particular job in Ireland? If so, the WP that you have now is only valid for the specified job for which you received it. You cannot change jobs on the same permit. If you wish to change employers, the new employer must get a new permit for you. Also, a WP is issued for up to a maximum of 1 year but it can be extended.

I think that after 5 years of living/working/paying taxes in Ireland you can apply for naturalization. Check out the website of "Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment" for more details.

I also find it very helpful to review this message board frequently and read past messages to get more info.

Hope this helps

Maria

it's my fault but i had to make it clear in the 1st message -- we r not US citizens -- here we also have a work permit (H1B visa) -- we r Russian citizens and we have to take visa before going to any European country. and what abt working visa in Ireland? according to the description people of some specialities (like computer specialists) can have working visas and r allowed to change their employers. but do we have to receive new visas changing the employer?
have i outlined the process of receiving visas correctly?:
1. find an employer
2.the employer applies for ur work permit.
3. u receive the WP and go to the nearest embassy to receive a visa in ur passport and
4. u go to ireland
correct?
and the last: "people of some specialities (like computer science and stuff) may be given a working visa by an irish embassy" -- does it mean we need to request specially for it or the embassy itself takes such decisions?
wow -- so many questions!
i'll continue searching but will be grateful to any answers
best regards,

AlexandraZ ! For your workpermit, your employer needs to apply for it. Once they would get your work permit, you can have your visa stamped for that work permit.
For work visa, you need a job offer letter from your employer and then you need to fill the application form for work visa and apply to any Irish Embassy(provided your skill set fall in the shortage list). Here is the link to find more information on work visas

I hope it would help
cheers
