Hi everyone
Mi wife is French and I am Mexican (I don't need visa to enter any EU Country as visitor). We got married and lived in Mexico since 2 years ago. Now we want to move to Ireland or Netherlands where there would be some good opportunities to me (I am an IT Professional, 10years of exp. and CISCO, Novell and Microsoft Certified). May I look for a job freely in these countries, independently to the fact that she has or not already a job? ... of course we are moving together and she would declare me as an EU Citizen's dependand ... is that enough?
Thanks in advance to anyone with a clue.

In Ireland you can work freely if your spouse is EU citizen, you need to go through some bearocratic procedures. I have a friend who in the same situation. Good luck.

The best advice I can give you is to review the requirements you can find online at http://www.ind.nl The site is in dutch but there is a button on the top right (sometimes slowe to load) for English. Have a look around, there are lots of links to brochures on your rights and the procedures.

btw - I think the Dutch invented Red Tape, be prepared!

ok i'll try this in bits ...
i am in a similar situation. I am EU and my husband is a New Zealander. He is working here [and his work is getting a little anxious over his status], but I am not working.

After some research I was convinced that he could work here without a permit. I'll post the links to some legislation in the next reply.

It is surprisingly diffcult to get the desired response to this question. I have rung the Netherlands Immigration line [0800 8051] who said that a work permit was required [but they had to go look it up in some brochure, so I was not convinced].
Finally, after more research, i rang the Department of Justice, Immigration and naturalisation[070 370 3124] who stated very clearly, that because I was EU and we were married he DID NOT need a work permit.
He also said that some of the big corporations would ask to see a residence permit [easily avail from the Foreign police, once you have an address], but to re-iterate no work permit was required.

Finally the answer i wanted!
Good luck and if In doubt give them a call.

Hello,
Sorry to say but the reply of the IND was not correct. The EU partner has to be economically active in order to have the non EU partner to work without a workpermit.
In a married couple situation,EU citizen with non-EU partner, the EU partner should have a job in the Netherlands or a (small)company(apart from a few exceptions)! After that the partner can work without limits(no workpermit).
If the EU partner is not Economically active the partner needs a workpermit, in some cases the Netherlamds has special agreements with non EU countries that might offer some solutions.
You can call the local Foreign police, check the IND website or contact a lawyer.
However information over the telephone(helpdesk, informationline) is mostly not given by people with a legal background.
Regarding lawfirms there are a some that do immigration at the side. A specialised, relatively new lawfirm is hollandimmigrationlawyers(.com)(close to vondelpark) Amsterdam their tel:020-6850552
