Although I wouldn’t know, being from a very Catholic country (Mexico) myself, I bet Ireland does not provide any immigration opportunities for same-sex couples.

The UK, however, is very open to it and has an immigration rule for this kind of relationship. Stonewall is a gay organization that assist with these matters. See information in http://www.stonewall-immigration.org.uk/Briefing%20Doc.htm#What%20does%20the%20Unmarried%20Partners%20Rule%20say? .

If you have any further queries about the UK rule, please post your question in the UK forum instead of this one.

Thank you Hector very much! I have a job there in Ireland (unofficial). I have a visitor status up to 3 months. I would prefer to remain in Ireland instead going to UK. Would it be better for me to apply for the work permit and then wait 2-3 years working officialy here? Or would it be easier for me as a gay-guy to go to UK and stay there with another gay-guy? The point for me is obtaining a foreign citizenship in few years and establishing a relationship with a guy. Where would it be easier, sooner?

Hi.

I’m not sure I understand your question. What’s your nationality? Are you currently in a relationship or is it a hypothetical question? If you’re with somebody, what’s his nationality?

Hello Hector, I'm Polish, perhaps in few years we join EU, but I don't want to wait till then in my country to feel free.
I am in a relationship with an Irish-guy since I visited 1st time Dublin, Ireland and I fall in love in this country in December 2001. Since then I am here for the 3rd time. I don't need a visa to enter the country, but to stay or work I must have a work permit. So, he's Irish (he doesn't prefer to move to London - I already asked, but if we had to...) and I am Polish.
How are the chances for me to stay? I already said, I don't want to re-enter Ireland every 3 months and work unofficially for the rest of my life. But I don't see other chance...

I see.

Unfortunately, since you have not been continuously living with him for 2 years, you don’t qualify for same-sex partners’ immigration to the UK. And since Ireland does not give same-sex partners any immigration rights, your options are limited to what you could do by yourself, i.e., getting a work permit. It’d be better for you to consult an Irish immigration attorney/service.

sweetie, just marry a German or Dutchman (they have such laws) -and voila, you can live and (after some time) work in EU, not waiting when they finally allow Polish in (while still not allowing them to work)

but be quick - there are not enough Germans for all Czech/Polish boys

hi Witt,
There is a difference between life style there in Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland and also in mentality of German, Dutch and Irish people, if you know what I mean. I will just try to get the work permit here and live on this base. Thanks anyway!

Sorry Goodboy i dont believe you. To me it looks ur first priority is getting a citizenship and not having a gay relationship. Rather I get the picture of ur using the relationship as a springboard to citizenship in the uk.
I see more money here than honey

Heh, almost all immigration is about money, so it depends on what you have to sell - your skills (as in getting hired by a foreign company) or something else

I think I spent too much time in Prague, so I do not see anything criminal in what the guy asked
