Please disregard RD’s response. We certainly don’t stand for homophobic comments in this forum.

I think that most EEA (European Economic Area) countries are much gay friendlier than the rest of the world (USA included). Most of them even grant legal recognition to same-sex partnerships.

If you intend to migrate on the basis of your being gay, you have to be either married or in a long-term relationship (in other words, you get the same treatment as straight people). The UK, in example, allows immigration to same-sex partners provided they’ve been living together (under the same roof) for 2 years or more and one of the partners has to be an EEA national. Other countries have different requirements because there are no common immigration policies across the EEA.

Your best bet is to contact the gay & lesbian association of the country you’re interested in and they should be able to help you. In the case of the UK, the address is http://www.stonewall-immigration.org.uk .

For other avenues of immigration (work permit, etc.) have a look around this website.

I agree. RD, you don't have to like gay people or dislike them. Why not just leave them alone??? As long as they're not hurting you, why must you have to bash them? Just for the people, I'm not gay myself, I simply do not understand why people hate them.

Well, since this is a WORK PERMIT and jobs related website. Why does someone has to expose his/her sexual orientation for what ever reason? Is this an employment related or a gay friendly website?

have you ever thought of a situation when one of 2 gay partners moves somewhere because he has got a job in this country and that it's bloody difficult sometimes to take your partner with you, simply because this country does not recognise this partnership?

that's why a question can be asked about friendly countries...

(catholic Ireland for example recognises only marriages, even not unmarried heterosexual patnerships)

Sexual orientation is definitely a factor in immigrating, that’s exactly why European countries have regulations specifically referring to same-sex partners. And yes, this is a gay-friendly forum in the same way it is straight-friendly, Latino-friendly, etc.

Well, as mentioned above, the UK accepts gay couples for spouse visas, as does Australia and NZ (I know the latter are not in Europe but whatever).

General societal attitudes within a country do tend to be reflected in its immigration policies i think...

Anyway, this is by no means a 'work permit-only' board, I am here because I was given some excellent advice when about to move to the UK on a spouse visa.

Australia does not quite accept them, they have special "interdependency" visas, which can be used in this case, but the whole thing is more complicated than in a heterosexual case (and numbers of these visas are low - I think 500 a year, but maybe they suffice...)

I am not gay; however, I do like to live in an area that is tolerant of different types of peoples. Having said that, in terms of entire nations, the Netherlands is known to be very gay friendly. As for other nations, keep in mind the global fact that people are more tolerant in cities than rural areas, thus you'd be better off in London than rural Yorkshire.

I am gay and found RD's first post very funny. I am totally against political correctness and would never imagine using my sexual preferences to get residency in any country (though i had such oportunities). This is indeed a work permit discussion group and belive me gays have plenty of web sites with good advices.

Though hosted by workpermit.com, this is indeed an "Immigration Discussion Board" - that's the official name of these forums. This site contains information not only about work permits but also about family immigration, permanent residence, etc. Thus all kind of immigration-related questions are welcome.

Come on people, You do not have right to critisize someone's sextual liking and disliking. as simple as that. Just leave them alone why even reply if you do not like them

actually we didn't ALL think you were trying to use your 'gayness to migrate'. Some of us answered your question about what countries recognized gay-partnerships as equally as legitimate as heterosexual partnerships, because this board is primarily used to get info about immigration laws and you asked how easy it is to migrate, and two and two got put together to make five.
