My husband is a NL citizen and I am USA citizen. We live in USA and contemplating moving back to NL or south of France. What are the laws regarding retirees migrating to France or NL? Since my husband is NL citizen, probably no problem there but for me...what must I do to be with him? Also, since France is EU, husband again no problem but what about me? We do not intend to work as we will have our retirement thereby bringing money into the country. USA allows my retirement security checks (Social Security pension) to be forwarded directly to NL. Is this also acceptable in France? Please advise...anyone that knows of French laws. [*]null

HI

You should have no problem in getting a residence permit for any EU country where both you and your husband are resident, especially if you are not working and can show sufficient income to support yourself and not be reliant on the French/NL system. You will need to register for a residence card at the Aliens' Police in the NL (bring your husband's passport & your marriage certificate as well as the standard documentation) and at the Prefecture de Police in France and it shouldn't be too complicated of a process. I would also contact the French Consulate and / or Netherlands Consulate for more information on what visa would be required (for France, it would be the Long-Stay Visa, possibly a similar one for the Netherlands).

Good luck!
