Alex R Junior Member Member # 4064 | Posted June 25, 2002 03:02 PM Hi, I'm a college student in the U.S. Soon I will be graduating, in the field of Computer Science, and I was wondering if it would make my situation easier to receive a visa to Germany if my Grandfather was German, and served for the German military in WWII. I also know how to read and write in German, but the problem is that my Grandfather passed away 6 years ago. How will I be able to prove this? Please give me some information of steps that I have to take to receive a German visa. Thank you for your time [ June 25, 2002: Message edited by: Alex R ] [ June 25, 2002: Message edited by: Alex R ] [ June 25, 2002: Message edited by: Alex R ] |
Marcis Member Member # 4 | Posted June 28, 2002 04:16 PM Hi, As the grandchild of a German citizen (moreover, one who has served in the armed forces during wartime), I think you might be able to obtain German citizenship, but no guarantees. You should contact a German consulate in the US to find out more about that. Here's where you will find their address details & telephone numbers: http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/www/en/laenderinfos/adressen/dtl_vertretung?land_id=188&path_id=Vertretungen As an IT graduate, you might qualify for a German Green Card as well. The German Green Card is a special type of work permit for highly skilled IT professionals. If you have a job offer from a German company, you can get it within just a few weeks (processing time, postal deliveries and visa application included). The core eligibility criteria is that you will require a job offer for 39.600 Euros p.a. or more. Furthermore, as an American you may freely travel to Germany and spend up to three months looking for a job there without having to apply for a visa. Once you would have found a job, your employer can apply for the Green Card on your behalf, and once that's granted you may stay in Germany.
