I am writing in request for information of obtaining the proper paperwork and visas to enable me to reside and work in France. The consulate for my state in the US hasn't replyed to my inquiries.

My girlfriend lives and works in France and is a French citizen, I am a US resident and citizen. We are considering marriage here in the States possibly in August of this year because of the lesser paperwork involved (i.e. official translations of my birth certificate, 'certificate of celibacy', etc) than in France. I would like to reside in France as soon as September and have the appropriate visa, "Carte de Resident," and/or any other needed paperwork. I understand that if we marry in the US, the marriage will be honored (legal) in France. Is this correct?
I understand that we must register our marriage with the french consulate in the US for my state of residence and they will provide the proper visa (10 year resident visa?). (1) What documentation is needed from us, (2) must we appear in person and (3) what length of time should we expect for the processing to take?

All information will be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.
