Can anyone tell me how to obtain dual citizenship or even the migration laws to Belgium? My fiancee lives in Belgium and I am having a hard time getting any information or forms to fill out.

sorry my friend,

Belgium is not a country where everything is straight forward. if you ask ten people what to do you get ten different answers. It took me about half a year to find out exactly what to do in order to get a permanent residency. If there is a full time job and you are issued with that white work permit you may assule it's the first step to stay in Belgium but it clearly says that you can't change status and you gotta go home after the contract expires. if you just want to be with your partner for a year or so and not working then you can just go to the UK for half a day and get back every three months. you get a new stamp on the passport without any questions asked and you are entitled to stay as a tourist for three months (length may vary depending on your nationality). if you are getting married then you gotta register at your partner's home town, the town hall should be able to give ye a list of things you gotta collect. That depends on which part of the country and which province your partner's located. Ask him/her to go get a list prior to your arrival since you also need some documents from your home country such as birth certificate including your parents' information.

one more important thing. if you are getting a job which is considered freelance (architect, dentist, shop owner etc.) you should have your social security and obligatory medical insurance bits sorted a.s.a.p. no one will tell you what to do with you tax. Once you register for your VAT number (called BTW in Dutch) the tax office will send you forms and information booklets. Don't bother trying to fill in the form by yourself or ask your friends to do it but give that with all your invoices to an accountant. For the social security you just have to look up on the yellow pages and pick non-government one (fees are lower). There are so many things no one informs you to do and when you realise it you owe the state a huge sum of money with a substancial amount of penalties. I reckon the accountant will tell you all your duties which your partner or friends don't know exactly.
