No one in this forum owes you anything.

If you want some advise get a German lawyer to consult with.

Of course you will have to pay for that, but good service costs.

tnavon, it was just a question that comes right on time and which is asked in the right place because the site is name "Work Permit" so Advisors from the site should give some ansers about that if not, the site would have no really meaning.

I agree with tnavon. All workpermit.com does is hosting this forum which is no small thing considering how expensive hosting + bandwidth is. The guys of workpermit.com are professionals that need to be paid for their advice; they are running a business after all. They've very graciously created this forum so people can exchange opinions and knowledge but that's about it.

I do agree with Hector.
The Workpermit.com just hosts the forum, and that is a fact for which we should be thankful.
They are making their business as well, as, for instance, an immigration lawyer.
Could you imagine an immigration lawyer or any kind of other lawyer, who will provide you with legal consultation free of charge?
Best regards

The latest info that I got is that the Green Card holders will NOT benefit from the new law effective January 2003 directly, i.e they will not get the permanent residency immidiately BUT will get it after successfully holding the card for 5 years. Successfully means that you have paid 60 months of social contributions, taxes etc.

hope this helps.

Hi,

Sorry for my long absence from this forum. The Government Regulation on the German Green Card program provides that this type of work permit is not extendable beyond 5 years. However, if your German employer wants to keep you after these five years, or if you have a job offer from another German company, they can lodge a fresh work permit application on your behalf. Presumably, if IT specialists will still be a shortage skill in Germany then, you should stand a very good chance of getting your work permit approved then.

Furthermore, under article 19 of the New German Immigration Act (which will enter into force on 1 January), if you are offered a job with a salary level at least two times the level where you would pay the maximum contribution for health insurance as required under German law, (currently that would be 79,200 Euros), you might qualify for permanent residency under the new “highly skilled employee” category. More information about this can be found on http://www.workpermit.com/news/germany5.htm

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
