Have enrolled in RTU,Riga. The temporary residence permit demands something called a criminal record legalised by "competent authority" as part of the visa/permit requirement. The consulate guy in India is real rude and unhelpful. Can anyone help me with the information- where can I get it? What validations are required? Lead time expected?...Thanks a lot in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

If you are already in Latvia, you can get your documents certified/leagalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Department (Arlietu ministrijas Konsularais departaments, Elizabetes 57, 2nd floor, Riga, LV-1050, Tel. +371 7016364). However, if you are still in India, I'm afraid the only way to do it is through the Latvian Consulate.

If you feel that you need more advice, feel free to e-mail or telephone me at marcis.gobins@workpermit.com, tel. +371 7814120. I will be back to normal work starting from 2 January 2003.

In the meantime, Happy New Year!
