my friend is on student visa in england, his wife is 8 month pragnet, and they want to give birth to their child in ireland. so could you please guide me
what is the status of newly born baby
can parents change their status to irish if baby is irish
and if yes what is procedure and how long it takes

the child gets irish citizenship on the spot, but the residency takes about 14 months after you apply. and I don't think that they can here and just give birth and then apply you have to have some status(workpermit, asylum seeker). Also there are plans to amend the constitution to avoid this people taking advantage of this.

But yes, as it is now they might get the residency, but the ministry of justice said the lenght of stay in Ireland is a deciding factor when they award the residency. Also in Dublin they send all the pregnant foreigners to a a reception hospital.

Also factor the fact the treatment in the hospital is not that good if you don;t have medical insurance.
