Is it still possible to get a german citizenship based on ancestry?

My family emigrated from Germany after WW2. They did not maintain any ties in Germany.

TVT,

Germany used to grant citizenship solely on the basis of descendency aka jus sanguins (by blood) policy. This is what saw and continues to see Russians with German ancestry (who were driven out of Germany during the WW2 days) returning to Germany as full citizens- there was even a name for the trains that used to bring them back but my German is well rusty.

The German government amended the citizenship law in 2000 to allow acquisition of nationality by birth in Germany aka jus soli principal subject to certain conditions being met. Start of with the German Embassy in London for a breakdown of required documentation - you will need plenty of patience though as the naturalisation process takes circa 2 yrs.

As far as ancestry goes, it requires that your mother or father is/was a german citizen at the time of your birth. If they have been naturalised in another country prior to your birth, they have given up their german citizenship and this would not apply.

Thorsten,
I wrote to you the message below following your advice on the topic of anti-dual nationality issue on the UK forum. But probably you were not prompted to read. So, I enclose it here to draw your attention. It may make more sense if you go to Sashi's topic (malaysian passport) in UK forum.

Thorsten,
Can your guidelines really avoid any suspicion from the Malaysian immigration?

Say for examples, I use British passport every time I enter Britain and to all third countries e.g. France. And I only use Malaysian passport to enter & leave Malaysia. What the Malaysian immigration can see from the passport are records of the holder going in and going out of Malaysia. No records of entering the UK. This person must have a second passport??!!
