Although I qualify for emmigration by the points system, is there any advantage to me, in that I have lived as a permanent resident in Australia before for 2.5 years.

My parents took our family out to Australia in 1965 on the £10 ticket package, and I was wondering whether my time there qualified me in some way towards Australian Citizenship, given that if anyone went out now and stayed for 2 years they could apply for Australian citizenship.

Hi Nick

Unfortunately, being a former permanent resident in Australia that long ago won't allow you to apply for citizenship in Australia now. You would have had to have spent at least nine of the first 18 years of your life in Australia to qualify for Special Migration. Your best option would be to apply under the General Skilled - Independent category if you pass the points test. For an assessment of your chances, please complete our Immigration Appraisal form on http://www.workpermit.co.uk/australia/appraisal_form.htm and we will be able to assit you further.

Best regards,

Elfa
