Dear Elfa,

I have just heard from someone who submitted their application to the London office in April, and was granted a visa in July. They applied under the skilled independent class. They were on the MODL list as I am, being a hairdresser. Is it usual for visas to be processed more quickly when your profession is on the demand list? I applied in June, sent my medicals off with the application, so this should hopefully be all the info they need. I was quoted approx 12 months, and have planned for this, but if it is likely to be quicker, it would be helpful to know in order to get organised with closing our business and selling our house etc.

Hi Jackie

Three months to process a visa application under this category is almost unheard of! It may depend on the particular case (i.e. the candidate may have been single, submitted the medicals and police clearance certificates at once, had all documentation perfectly collated, etc.) or it may be that this person was just lucky (or knew someone at the HC!) I would suspect that having an occupation on the MODL would be helpful, but I would count on those 12 months for processing!

Hope this helps,

Elfa
