cricketer Junior Member Member # 571 | Posted November 03, 2001 11:49 PM Hi, Same as everyone here, just about. I would like to work/emmigrate in Australia. I would like to know where to start, the easiest way and what my chances are? Just about eveything then! Just to start, very briefly... Where do I start and which is the easiest way? Not much to ask! Thanks.. |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted November 06, 2001 03:28 PM Hi Cricketer If you want to work in Australia temporarily, then you should try to secure a job offer and employer sponsorship. If this is not possible, then you may wish to consider applying for permanent residency on the basis of your skills and qualifications. As an IT Professional, you qualify for a free assessment off our website. Please be advised that if you are interested in an initial assessment on I hope this has been helpful and I look forward to your response. All the best. cricketer Junior Member Member # 571 | Posted November 07, 2001 12:16 AM Thanks for the information. Am I better trying to get my current employer to send me to set up an office in Australia. What are the pit falls in this method? Or is it much easier on a personal basis to try to get another job? How are interviews, etc carried out. I wouldn't be able to just nip over for an interview. I will complete the ~~~~sment forms soon. Thanks again in advance |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted November 07, 2001 05:40 PM HI Criketer It might be easiest and quickest to have your current employer send you over on a Long-Stay Temporary Business Visa to set up an office in Australia. However, you would be tied to doing just that: setting up the office and could not work for anyone else on that visa. Most Australian employers prefer to interview in person as well, so it might be worth going out there to help your current company set up an office, and then do some "research" on the side, whilst available in person. Look forward to receiving your assessment form. Best regards Elfa -------------------- Elfa Kere, Consultant |
cricketer Junior Member Member # 571 | Posted November 07, 2001 05:54 PM Thanks again, In theory if my current employer was to send me then I would be happy. Any advice at the moment is good advice. Do you have much in the way of reading that you can reccomend? Thanks |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted November 08, 2001 03:44 PM Hi Criketer Actually, by "research" I meant interviewing with other Australian companies and yes, looking for a job while you are working, in fact. You would not have to return to the UK to apply for a new visa, you would just have to have your new employer sponsor you. The Migration Regulations are a good solid read, although rather dry. I would suggest OUR website www.workpermit.com as I composed the eloquently written Australian guide/ section. Hope this helps! Elfa -------------------- Elfa Kere, Consultant |
cricketer Junior Member Member # 571 | Posted November 08, 2001 04:18 PM Thanks again Elfa, I did realise what you meant by 'research', I just didn't know how favourably prospective companies look on people who were there by means of little falsehoods! Or do they see this as a bit of initiative? I will fill in the assesment forms v.soon so I at least know where I stand. However at the moment I am talking to some guys in Victoria that I am doing some work for. If this all works out then my company should be able to send me out for a while. If not then I have to decide whether to go under my own steam. Could you give me an idea on timescale and cost for my employer. That way I can be ready with the answers when needed. I have read so much it is hard to put it all together! Thanks once again, John |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted November 13, 2001 12:52 PM Hi John Generally, processing times for Long-Stay Temporary Business Visas range from six to ten weeks, depending on how quickly your employer can get the various documents and forms together for the application. Your side will cost GBP65 and takes about 3-4 weeks to process. For details on our services and fees, please e-mail me personally on ozvisa@workpermit.com Thanks, Elfa -------------------- Elfa Kere, Consultant |
