Hi,

Just wondering what my choices were for emigrating as I don't have the required No of points.
Audiologist 50 points
Fluent English 20 points
25 years old 30 points = 100 points

I only have 12 months experience in Audiology but I am fully qualified. I believe I need at least another 12 months experience to firstly be able to apply under
general skilled migration and then a further 12 months (3 years in total) to be able to claim another 10 points (to get to 110) - IS THIS THE CASE?

Could I apply for audiology jobs in Australia and get a employer sponsored visa or is it likely they wouldn't be able to sponsor me since it is likely they wouldn't be able to prove it was a skill shortage and as such could employ someone from Australia?

Thanks for any help

James

Hi James

Unfortunately, you would only be able to score a total of 105 points if you have worked as an Audiologist for at least three of the past four years. To be eligible to apply for General Skilled - Independent migration at all as an Audiologist, you must have worked for at least 2 out of the past 3 years in skilled employment (i.e. in any occupation listed on the SOL). You will not be able to claim 10 points for specific work experience since your occupation is only worth 50 points, rather than 50.

For a full assessment of your qualifications and work experience, as well as details on improving your points score, please complete our Immigration Appraisal form on http://www.workpermit.com/australia/appraisal_form.htm

Thanks Elfa,

What about employer sponsored visas. I know an Australian Audiologist who works in the UK who says I should be able to get a job over there as there is a shortage. However I presume prospective employers must have to show that they couldn't have found anyone in Australia to take the post? Is this the case?

Hi James

Yes, this is generally the case in that the Australian employer would need to advertise the position for five weeks prior to offering a non-Australian the position. If the employer can show that there is a shortage of audiologists in Australia, then he should be able to hire you...

All the best
