I hope somebody can give me a little advice.

I have three options on a visa, PR, working (or similar) and fiancee.

To give you an idea of timescale I am looking at moving out to Australia to be with my fiancee in about 6 months, but not looking to marry for a year or two. Obviously I want to move out as soon as possible. But which is the best route?

I am in IT and think i score 120 points for a PR, but that takes time. How long does a working visa take to come though and same goes for a fiancee visa.

What is the criteria for a fiancee visa? Not the obvious ones but how long to get and in what timescale do you have to marry, etc

Thanks all

John.

PS Elfa if you can remember my posting about 8 weeks ago then you may notice the different slant on the questions now!

I too, looked at the fiance stream prior to my getting married in December. If you apply as a fiance, you are declaring that you will marry within 90 days (if memory serves, but it's on the immi.gov.au site) IN Australia.

For my husband (of one month!) and me, since I wanted to marry in the US, this was not our answer. We are presently getting all of our documentation together so that I can apply by the end of February as his spouse. (yes, he's over in Australia now, and I'm in the US ).

The website also gives an idea of priority to family stream visa applications... I understand though, that it takes about 4-6 months for that stream to gain approval/answer.

Hi Cricketer

Thanks for posting - yes, I remember your last posting so I would imagine that now congratulations are in order!

Regarding the fiance visa, you need to marry within NINE MONTHS (9) of arrival in Australia, so that's not so bad if you want to wait a year from now, since processing times are about 6 months (depending largely on where the app is lodged). London has a heavy load, as you might imagine, and therefore might take a bit longer.

IT apps are only taking 4-6 months to process, by the way, so I think you have either option open to you. If you can get employer sponsorship with a job offer, then the visa can be processed within about 6 weeks! But that is after the employer does his part, which can take several weeks as well....

If you are granted the Partner Migration visa, you get a temporary one until you marry, and then later a permanent one as long as you can continue to prove that you are in a stable, genuine and continuous marital relationship.

Hope this makes sense and please let me know how we can help!!

Best regards

Elfa

Thanks Elfa,

Yes congratulations are in order, thank you . As you can imagine that we are desperate to be together as soon as possible.

I have got your email and have just replied to it, explaining my IT side of things. Please could you have a look at this. I think that this may be the way to go forward?
Assuming I can get this withing the 6 months a fiancee visa would take. I can then marry at any stage.

I have lots to do now, could you point me to the start.

Thanks very much

John
