ams Junior Member Member # 979 | Posted January 28, 2002 02:06 PM My native language (mother tongue) is listed in Australian community languages. Can I claim 5 bonus points for it? What proof do I need to establish my claim? Ams |
balu Member Member # 1018 | Posted January 29, 2002 01:32 PM are you an indian by any chance? if yes, you will have to take an exam on your mother toungue which only POETS can pass. The literature will be very tough. Pls do not count any points for your mother toungue |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted January 29, 2002 05:07 PM HI Balu is right - it is very difficult to claim bonus points for community languages. However, I was under the impression that if you provide evidence of a qualification (equivalent to an Australian Bachelor's degree or higher) gained from an institution where instruction took place in that community language, then you could claim those bonus points. Perhaps this is only for certain languages, though. If you already can claim enough points without the bonus points then there is no need to claim these anyway. Hope this helps! romoz Junior Member Member # 1795 | Posted January 29, 2002 07:55 PM Can anybody provide a link to or a list of comuunity languages? Specifically, I am interested if Romanian and/or French are on the list and if anybody has taken those exams. Thanks. |
ams Junior Member Member # 979 | Posted January 30, 2002 05:49 AM Hi Balu & Elfa...I'm indeed an Indian. Thanks for your inputs. I have had all my studies in English and I would not like to take the test by NAATI. As it is I have 125 points which I think might be enough. Thanks for all these. Ams |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted January 30, 2002 04:50 PM To Romoz: Both Romanian and French are on the list of community languages. The list can also be found on our website under the self-assessment points calculator page: http://www.workpermit.com/australia/point_calculator.htm AMS: You definitely have enough points so do not even think of burdening yourself with passing a Hindi language test!! bg128 Junior Member Member # 1972 | Posted February 11, 2002 01:49 PM I don't quite get it... Would I have to take an exam to prove that I know my own native language?!?!?! B. |
Elfa Member Member # 5 | Posted February 14, 2002 04:35 PM Hi bg128 No, you would not have to take a test to prove your fluency in your own native language as long as your tertiary degree was taught in your native language. The degree must be deemed equivalent to an Australian Bachelor's degree. Hope this helps! Elfa -------------------- Elfa Kere, Consultant |
