HI

You certainly have an interesting question, one which I haven't been posed before.

I am not sure if it would be considered illegal to start a business on a Long-Stay Temp Bus Visa 457 (work permit) since this is the same visa granted to Independent Executives who solely wish to start a business in Australia....but you are working full-time for an OZ company, are you not? I wouldn't think that starting a company on the side, as long as this is done through the appropriate institutions, would be considered a breach of immigration law, however, I would advise you to visit the local DIMA office to ensure that you would not have to make a separate visa application for this purpose.

I hope this helps!
