Another question ... we will provide a number of supporting witness statements to back up my partner's application to migrate to Australia as my interdependent partner. However, I note that the DIMA statutory declaration form (888) is to be filled in only by Australian citizens or permanent residents.

While there are a number of Australian friends and relatives who know us both and the details of our relationship, there are also non-Australians close to us who I feel would strongly back up our case, such as my partner's British co-tenants who have known me as long as he has and with whom I have also lived.

Is there any way we can have them fill in something 'official' which can be submitted with our application? Or do their opinions simply not count to the Australian Government?

Thanks again!

HI

You should have your non-Australian friends provide Statutory Declarations or Affidavits attesting to your relationship - these will definitely be accepted as "official" by the High Commission.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for this Elfa! I feel better already.

One question though ... where would I find the forms or the correct wording and layout of a British affadavit or statutory declaration? Or could I just base it on the Australian one and get them to have it certified in the UK?

Thanks again!

Hi

You could probably base the Declarations on the Australian one but most notaries/ barristers have official layouts and forms for these types of things, so you should probably explain the situation to whoever is witnessing the statements, and they should be able to advise.

Hope this helps!
