I am currently working in OZ on a two year permit obtained by my employer. The first year is now up and I know I would like to stay here past the two years - what is the best way to convert to Migration. Do it myself or ask my employer to sponser me?

i believe you can do it on your own; if things are okay you will be able to get oz pr in almost 6 months time!

Hi Joel

Could you tell me how you went about obtaining a two year work visa??

Thanks

Hi Joel

You would only be able to apply for PR under the Skilled categories offshore - this means you must be outside of Australian when the app is lodged and outside when the visa is granted.

Otherwise, if your employer is willing to sponsor you for PR under the Employer-Sponsored category, then you could probably stay in Australia. Or you could see if your employer might extend your contract to four years.

Good luck!

Thanks

Do you mean I can apply for migration while I am out of Oz on holiday in London, and then return to Oz to continue working?

Thxs

Hi Jak

Technically, yes, you could do this, but your Long-Stay Temp Bus visa will be revoked when the permanent residency visa is granted. You must also be outside of Australia when the visa is granted.

Hope this helps!
