Can a parent be included as a dependant when you file for australian immigration(I want my mom to accompany us when we move to australia, she doesnt have any other kids and my father is no more) or does it have to be done seperately after you get your PR. if it has to be done seperately, how long does it take.

Hi Nprem,

Parents cannot be included as dependents while applying for skilled independent visas. But you can sponsor them after you get your PR.Mind you have to be resident in Australia to sponsor your parents.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it is possible because of the "other Dependent" (Page 46/chapter 5 "general Info") section in booklet 6 (skilled immigration booklet). Please let me know if i am wrong.

Hi nprem,

The Booklet 6 clearly states that the application includes the primary applicant and if applicable spouse or children who are under or over 18 years. If any of the children is aged over 18 ,then he or she has to fill form 47A.

Hope this helps.

Any dependent above the age of 18 years can accompany the pricipal applicant. Necessary evidence of dependency has to be shown. In case if your mother has no other children to depend then she can accompany you.
