To get a visa stamped on your passport, your passport shud be valid for six months after the expiry of your visa [US Consulate]
You can only renew your passport only within one year of its expiration [Indian Consulate]

now if you need to have a visa stamped on a passport that expires say 2-3 years from now, there is no way to do it! The US consulate wont stamp it because it is not valid for 3.5 yrs(Visa period+6mnths) and the Indian Consulate wont issue a new passport since it is not expiring !

If some one else has gone thru this Catch22 situation, i wud really appreciate your insights

Thanks
