One year in France?

Post by vanityconstruct » Wed Jan 04, 2006 3:59 pm

Hi

I am deferring my degree for one year, and would like to spend that year working in Paris, then returning after a year to finish my studies. What kind of visa would I need and how would I go about getting it? I would expect to get work somewhere like Starbucks or Disneyland rather than a highly skilled postition. I am a UK resident.

As you give no clue about your nationality, nor your immigration status in the UK, I fear it is impossible for anyone to answer you.

Would you like to post some more information?

Vanity, whilst it may be obvious to you that you are a British national, that fact is not obvious to anyone else reading your request for help.

Just because you are resident in the UK does not mean you are a British national.

As to your question, then a starting point in your search for information may be a telephone call or a visit to the French Diplomatic Mission closest to where you live.

You might have ... but no one else could assume that!

So now you have confirmed that you are a British Citizen the good news is that you have a right to live and work in any other EEA country, and that of course includes France.

So no Work Permit or visa required. Just go with your British Passport, which will confirm your treaty rights.

I'm being pedantic of course, but many British nationals are not British citizens and only a small number of non-British citizen UK nationals have EU free movement of labour rights (British subjects with right of abode and Gibraltarian British overseas territories citizens).

So now you have confirmed that you are a British Citizen the good news is that you have a right to live and work in any other EEA country, and that of course includes France.
There's even an exception to the rule here - if he was a British citizen connected solely with the Isle of Man or Channel Islands he would not have these rights until he completed 5 years residence in the UK itself (Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

People, come on. i needed to clarify my status, as unbeknowst to me it wasnt clear, I was asked to do so by the mod, i attempted to do so, it was clarified. Is it really necessary for anyone else to add thier 2p worth? I hate the internet for this kind of behaviour. We are all just trying to get some questions answered, lets keep it to that ey?
