Surrendering Child's Indian Passport

Post by Jack&Jill » Wed Sep 04, 2019 2:50 pm

Dear Moderators,

Thank a lot for all your continuous support.

Today I've received my child's BP along with all supporting documents. My query is

1. How to surrender my child's Indian Passport?

2. Should I apply for OCI first or surrender first?

Please advice. Many thanks in advance.

Dear Moderators,

Please ignore my previous post. I got the answer. I have a doubt on OCI. We are Indian born parents recently got ILR. Baby born here when we were on Tier 2 General Visa. So on which category the fresh OCI to be applied for the child?

Fresh OCI (on the basis of applicant’s own Indian Origin)
(or)
Fresh OCI (on the basis of Parent/Grandparent/Great Grandparent’s Indian Origin)
(or)
OCI Miscellaneous Services

Please advice. Thanks.

Hi,

Cool. You will be getting your child's surrender certificate in couple of days or in a week time. With that prepare documents for applying OCI and again get appointment or walk-in to apply OCI. The website is horrible and will confuse. So please take extra care and prepare. I've applied OCI one month ago and still waiting. I still don't understand what they check for child... It's really horrible waiting time. We need to travel urgently...

It takes at least six to eight weeks to process. If you need to travel urgently, you can apply for and travel on the eVisa (assuming you are eligible for this visa).

Thank you. I'm going to apply e-visa soon. I have one more doubt. Once OCI is ready with VFS, what documents do I need to carry in order to collect OCI? I believe child's BP and what are the other documents. Please help. Thanks again.

Did you nominate to collect the OCI or have them post it to you? If you have to collect it from the office, take id proof such as the passport, the application details (print out of the application number), and SMS proof that it is ready.

Hi Xebec,

Many thanks for your reply. Do I need to get appointment to collect it or just walk-in and inquire?

Regards

I am not sure about your local office. You shouldn't need to make an appointment, but it cant hurt to make one just to be 100% sure. You would have to contact the local VFS office to be certain.
