Dual citizenship for child born to parents on ILR

Hi,

My son was born in UK after I got ILR and he holds a British passport at the moment. At the time of his birth his mother and I held an Indian passport and that is still the case. I recently came to know that he can hold dual citizenship i.e. British and Indian passport till the age of 18. He is 1 year 1 month old at present.

My questions are:
Can we apply for his Indian passport and get dual citizenship for him?
What is the process for it?
How difficult is it compared to getting an OCI?
How long does the process take generally?

In theory, yes. Has his birth been registered with the Indian diplomatic authorities? He does not acquire Indian citizenship by descent unless it has been.

Thanks for your reply. His birth has not been registered with Indian authorities yet. Is it too late to do that or can we still do the birth registration and apply for Indian passport?

It would have saved you a lot of time had you searched in this forum before as it has been discussed in length.

The answer is NO. He cannot get dual citizenship.
