OIC/Passport surrender process after receiving letter for booking ceremony

Post by Follow_the_map » Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:02 pm

Hi All,

I've just received a letter confirming my citizenship application is successful and i need to book a ceremony. I am sort of clear on what i need to do next but not clear when I can progress these items. So please correct me if i am wrong.

1. Book Ceremony and get Get Certificate
2. Send BRP to Home office after certificate is received
3. Apply for British Passport and wait to receive it.
4. Cancel Indian passport and get a surrender certificate
5. Apply for Indian OCI with surender certificate.

Some doubts
- Between sending BRP and reciving indian passport can i travel out of UK because BRP will not be with me when i re-enter UK

Thanks!

The order of actions you mentioned is the most conventional.

In case you would like to travel outside UK particularly to India, you can do so on your Indian passport and ILR BRP within 3 months from date of naturalization (date of ceremony) but before you apply for British Passport.

In case you wish to travel to another country kindly check for their t&c's.

WP-> HSMP-> Tier 2G D-> ILR-> BC-> OCI
