My flight is on 05-Dec, Dont really know whether to wait for arrival of oci or apply for tourist visa? any suggestions please? Any one know how long is taking for tourist visa at london or birmingham?

I am in similiar situation , decided not to risk , hence applied and got visa in hand, take atleast a week for visa in person longer through post

It took less than a month for processing my appln.. looks like HCI is more efficient these days in terms of processing applns..

will go to HCI london on 22/23 to collect..

Strangly I was told it ll take atleast 16 weeks for it to come.
My passport surrender at vfs edinburgh also took exact 3 weeks from the day of applying in person.

Desperately waiting for the OCI now as have already booked flights for 12th Dec...Hope will get it by then...

Spoke with someone in OCI Birmingham and they told me that they will NOT handover OCI card and foreign passport same day. It will be sent by courier service ONLY. They can consider your case of ‘issuing the documents same day’ ONLY IF your travel date is within 48 hours.

Reading through the posts looks like London is quicker than Birmingham..

Thanks once again everybody for helping others. I would like to request everybody to post their experiences, you never know it might help somebody somewhere someday.....

Hi

I have sent all my documents for OCI application to HCI - London on 21st November 2012. The documents are received by HCI on 22nd November 2012 (by someone called DARREN WILLIAMS as shown on proof of posting of Royal Mail).

However, the status enquiry report still shows that application is not yet acknowledged.

Per information available in HCI website, application sent by post will be acknowledged within 2 weeks. For me 2 weeks already passed.

Can anyone please tell me whether this is as expected?

Is there an e-mail ID or phone number for requesting a reply from HCI to know why acknowledgement is delayed?

You can enter your UK passport no as well not just application ref number?

It will be great if you can update the timelines for your passport-surrender applications please.

Regarding OCI ack for postal applications it seems it may take close to 3 weeks few times.

Example in this same thread for PG1983 user the timelines he posted are

I am applying for OCI for my infant daughter; few questions - apologies if already asked / answered as did not find it when searched!

[1] Do I need to sign the form?

[2] Do I need to take left hand thumb impression for my infant daughter who is just five months old?

[3] Documents likely to be included - photo copy of my OCI, my residence proof, marriage certificate, full birth certificate, fees, pre paid envelope, photo copy of UK passport, two copies of of above documents, two photoes.

[4] I have filled the form in her name as first applicant - is it right or do i need to put my name as parent to represent her OCI application?>

Thanks. I undertstand OCI ack can take up to 3 weeks, but HCI website says 2 weeks. That's why I was checking others' experience.

As requested, timeline for surrender of Indian passports:

Sent to VFS by post: Thu 8th November 2012

Received by VFS: Fri 9th November 2012
Pre-checking by VFS and processing: Wed 14th November 2012
Surrender Certificate Issue Date: Thu 15th November 2012
Surrender Certificate Ready for collection: Mon 19th November 2012 AM
Returned by VFS: Mon 19th November 2012 PM
