Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

I am an Indian Citizen residing in the UK with ILR and my Son has British Passport by birth.

To apply for his OCI, can you please provide below info.

Do I need to submit his original British Passport?
If I have to submit his original Passport then how long will it take for them to return that?
Can we ask for OCI card to be delivered end of August as we are going to be in India in July and until 3rd week of August?
Can OCI be delivered to our address in India please?

He now has 1 year Indian tourist visa to travel but he can't stay there for more than 6 months in every visit which he may have to in this visit.

I would be grateful if you can promptly provide above info as we are travelling end of this month.

My son was also British Passport holder by birth. I had to just present the original passport at VFS counter along with the photocopy. They handed back the original passport to me after taking a look. They did not keep it at the application stage.

They will not deliver you the OCI card. Procedure is to apply and look for status online. They will mention there something like documents received back in London. At that time, you have to take the original passport and pre-paid special delivery envelope and hand it over to them. The OCI card and passport is then posted to you in 7 days. So, if you do not go, they will hold the processing till you are back ...

I would not recommend asking for OCI to be delivered to India to reduce complications if the application was made from the UK ...

Hi,
I would like to know list of documents need to attach / upload online for OCI.

British passport,
Naturalisation certificate,
Indian passport surrender and
Marriage certificate (applying for my wife at the same time)

Do I need to upload self attested copy or just photocopy without self attest will be sufficient ?

Please let me know. I have already booked the appointment on 7 July and need to upload the documents ASAP.

Hi. Help please. I was told that I will not need to submit my British passport and I should receive my oci in post

... after almost 2 months and 3 weeks I thought to check my application process online and it reads that documents received at Birmingham on 17th May.

So does that mean it has been there since 17th may? So it has been more than 70 days of date of acknowledgement (I.e. 20th April). What should I do now?

Wow.. you have some patience !
Did you opt for the courier service? if yes, you need to physically go there with the envelope they gave you at the time of subsmission. I don't think you need to make an appointment. They should then send your OCI in post.
You had better made your way to VFS Birmingham as soon as you can!

Did you apply as an individual or as a family? Have you tried contacting VFS on their OCI helpline +44 203 793 8629* or +44 203 788 4666*? I have found them really helpful.

Righty ho... I am back after a long time with some questions on OCI this time around...

I read that one must now also submit letter from employer confirming job details etc... On the website, it does not say if the letter has to be dated in past month or something. Also, does employment contract suffice to meet this need?

Yeah, i was turned back for my appointment as i didn't carry my employer's letter.

What about those people who are not employed at present or worked many years ago? Can they write Unemployed or what is the procedure? Any documentation from last employment many years ago? Unemployed is enough?
