Hi all,

I have applied for a oci renewal as I am 50+ and I have a new British passport.

My application was acknowledged on 14th September.

When checking the OCI status report today I get the following message:

“Your application has been acknowledged by competent authorities. It is under consideration”

Has anyone on here recently applied through the new renewal system, if so how long did it take and what is the process?

Thanks for your help

Please do, I had a similar experience I my family's case, my & my wife's application was processed and dispatched he'd first and then my daughters later .... you may check on the timeliness thread. All three applications were submitted the same day.

Thanks dontringthebell, strangely after sending the email the status is changed to dispatched from Delhi on 14/10/2021 and no further update on receiving the OCI in Edinburgh.

You may send another mail stating the delay in dispatch. I have already shared the template for the same in this very thread. Same was the case with me as well.

You can write when you like, though I guess, if you write earlier than 30 days they are bound to give you a standard email reply stating it takes between 4-6 weeks.

Hi Andyban

What is the online link you used to update the details of the new British passport for your child? I am trying to do the same for my child but after I give the old passport number, U Visa number and date of birth, it does not go to the next page to upload the new passport (photo page) and new photo. Kindly give your experience. Am I doing something wrong? We already have the OCI for the child associated with the old British passport.

Thanks
B

They will update once they dispatch the OCI from Delhi. The staff at VFS Edinburgh told me that usually the OCI will be dispatched in batches, like once in 10-14 days ( it may vary for London/Birmingham). If you are lucky you will get it in 4 weeks, if you miss the batch you may get it in 6 weeks.

In my case someone applied from Edinburgh on Sept 6th received their OCI on Oct 8th but we applied on Sept 8th and received OCI on Oct 22nd. I think it is quicker for London location.

I have two questions.

1. My daughter has completed 5 years, so she got a new British passport, but when I tried to renew her OCI card, as it has her baby photo last year, I was told there is no need for new OCI card until the age of 20 years, a sling as the British passport accompanies her old OCI card. Is it true? Or should I re-apply?

2. A friend just finished her Canadian Citizenship ceremony, she wants to go to India and apply for OCI card, is it allowed?

3. The Canadian Indian, can she travel on Indian passport and reach India and then apply for OCI without getting a tourist visa? What ia is the best process for OCI for new Canadian citizens who has Indian passports?

Is it true? Yes its trueOr should I re-apply? Please don't, though you may go through the following:
https://ociservices.gov.in/MiscNew.pdf
https://www.hcilondon.gov.in/docs/16188 ... 172708.pdf

2. A friend just finished her Canadian Citizenship ceremony, she wants to go to India and apply for OCI card, is it allowed? Yes it is allowed, however, one needs surrender of indian passport certificate as well as foreign passport before appplying applying OCI.

3. The Canadian Indian, can she travel on Indian passport and reach India and then apply for OCI without getting a tourist visa? No she can't, as explained aboveWhat ia is the best process for OCI for new Canadian citizens who has Indian passports? Obtain canadian passport, surrender indian passport & then apply for OCI from Canada or India. If she chooses to apply from india she would need to get in touch with concerned FRRO associated with the state jurisdiction.

Also, kindly note, "There is a grace period of three months after acquisition of foreign nationality for using Indian passport for travel. But the grace period is not applicable once the British/Foreign Passport is acquired, she should travel only on the Foreign passport once the same is obtained even if she is within the grace period of three months." Though she can travel to india during grace period but she would require foreign passport and surrender certificate prior to applying for OCI.

Usually how long does it take to be received at Birmingham, once it has been dispatched from Delhi?

As looking through this thread most people have stated the same date as dispatched and received on same day.
