I did not have to at the VFS London centre. If you are applying with a past indian passport and surrender certificate they do not take the original british passport anymore but just verify and give it back immediately.
Not sure what the case if you apply on the basis of a parent of indian origin.

This might be cos you applied in London, I applied in Manchester and had to submit my British passport.

I applied in London yesterday for my UK born child on basis of Indian Origin Parents and they did not ask for passport to be submitted and I even specifically asked if I have to come back again to provide passport. They said no and OCI will be sent home.

I'm applying for OCI and have couple of questions ?

I have 2x2 photos for OCI but it has a White background, and while reading the requirements. It says light color background (not white) ? should i have to retake new pics or White background will work ?

For child (6 & 9 ) - Do i have to take sign (ask them to write name and apply as signature or should i use left thumb ) ?

Date of Application: 6th Jan 2022 ( Child’s first OCI, parents still holding Indian passport)
Place of Application: Belfast
Date of Acknowledgment: 12th January
Supporting documents return date: 17th January (DX courier)
Application Processed: 02 February
OCI Arrived: 8th February (DX Courier)

So it took nearly 5 weeks for the OCI to arrive, I must say the whole photo upload and thumb impression was very complicated and annoying they could make it more straightforward, Also finding the most up to date guide regarding OCI application is a mission as there are so many old guides popping up when you Google!!

Well done to everyone successfully getting their OCIs. I have a query about going to the centre in Hounslow. Can my husband go there on his own with our and his forms as it is too much of a hassle to make the trip there with our 3 yr old from Norfolk. Ours is about submitting the forms to get our OCIs re-issued as the earlier OCIs were stolen in a house burglary.

Yes he can, please ask him to carry a authorisation/consent letter from your end stating he would be representing you and your child.

Hi Everyone,

Today I've been to the VFS Goswell and whatever you take, there is still more they ask. The guidance on HCI and VFS is not comprehensive. So here is the checklist they hand over when you enter VFS. Verify that you have all the documents listed here.
Along with the below, you will need:

One Passport size Photo (size 2 inches by 2 inches)

Take two Royal Mail Special Delivery envelopes - 1 for your documents and another for your OCI. Their courier costs double that of Royal Mail.

I have contacted them on several occasions but only received generic response:

"You have applied under Spouse Based Category. Applications under this category take longer than expected and need special approval from Ministry. The normal timeline for such applications is 2-3 months."

Application is still showing under process but 7th March will be 3 months so hopefully not much longer.

That seems to be longer than expected as normally they say around 6 weeks, although it does say here https://www.hcilondon.gov.in/page/oci-card/ that spouse cases can take longer.
Contact inf.london@mea,gov.in and say you need to attend a memorial and need it by 23rd Feb. Another option you could do is apply for a tourist visa as that comes in days rather then weeks. good luck

Hi friend,

Declaration in child section we left empty, nowadays no fingerprint neither child's signature is needed unless child is old enough to be able to sign.
And We both parents signed in bottom one parent's section. We put signatures next to each other.

For child we only uploaded online fingerprint.

Thanks for the info. Hope its valid for Goswell Road too. Our passport surrender application took 4 hours. So, planning to go alone and apply on behalf of Wife and Kid if that's accepted.
