Hi, I have couple of questions regarding OCI applications are below:

I, my wife and my kid we all have got british passport and we all have got Indian Passport Surrender certificates also.

Ques 1) During my, wife OCI application there is ques in application form which is below

Are You applying OCI on the basis of Indian Spouse/ Spouse's OCI-Card? * with yes or no option

Now I am the spouse and I have got british passport + Surrender certificate.

so on above question Do I need to choose yes or no -- I am confused here I am an indian but now got british passport and Indian passport is cancelled.

Ques 2) I have one more ques in the form is below

Relation With the Root Indian * and options are Father, mother, GrandFather, GrandMother, GreatGrandFather, GreatGrandMother, Self

which one is the correct to fill here

Any help would be useful

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info. Hope its valid for Goswell Road too. Our passport surrender application took 4 hours. So, planning to go alone and apply on behalf of Wife and Kid if that's accepted.
Yes very much so, I applied OCI for my daughter, wife and myself at Goswell Road centre, I applied on their behalf and carried consent letter.

Please carry as many appointment letters as the jumber of your applications.

Thanks for the reply. one more doubt as my kid born in UK and held indian passport initially then got british passport.
in this case it will be Self option or As father option.

As all three of you held indian passport, i.e. you held indian citizenship prior to naturalization / registration, therefore all of you would have direct relationship to indian root. Hence, all would have to choose "SELF"

I, my spouse and 2 sons all have British Passports. I would like to obtain OCI for my spouse and 2 sons. I got my OCI in 2015 itself.

myself: UK passport (born in India) + OCI issued in 2015
spouse: UK passport (born in India - naturalisation)+ Indian passport surrendered
2 x sons: 5 year old and 1 year old. both born in the uk.

Question 1 :
- spouse should select "relation with Root" as SELF?
- 2 sons should select "Relation with Root" = Mother or Father? ( note that I plan to go with the 3x application forms to VFS on behalf of the applicants)

Question 2:
on the day of application (say London - Goswell) will I need to submit any original documents - and particularly do I need leave the applicants UK passports with VFS?

Question 3:
There are so many web links with step by step guide - could someone point me to the one which they believe is most useful and updated with the latest rules?

Many thanks! :)

However, if you had registered your children as indian citizen or if they have held an indian passport prior to registering a british citizen they would choose SELF as well.

Question 2:
on the day of application (say London - Goswell) will I need to submit any original documents - and particularly do I need leave the applicants UK passports with VFS? Please carry all originals with you. They would not take the passport but could ask you to check. When I applied not so long ago they took:
For wife Naturalisation Certificate, Surender Certificate
For daughter Registration Certificate, Birth Certificate, Surender Certificate.

In case your children are applying on the basis of parents as relation to root, they might also ask for marriage certificate.

Question 3:
There are so many web links with step by step guide - could someone point me to the one which they believe is most useful and updated with the latest rules? You could follow any, its quite straight forward, keep digital photo and signature/written name image files handy prior to start applying. If children can write their name that is accepted instead of signatures.

Once you complete online application take a print out and sign the declaration page for your children. Take it to VFS on the day of the appointment alon gwith photocopies of documents and carry 3 printouts of appointment page. I'll share my experience too.

Hi All

I had applied for my Son's OCI in December 2021.
Date of acknowledgement - 23 Dec 2021.
Original Documents has been returned safely.
Its been more than 11 weeks now and the Status still remains " UNDER-PROCESS". It has crossed the normal processing time of 5-6 weeks and I did wait expecting the OCI to arrive(thinking the Status may not be updated).Unfortunately, the OCI hasn't arrived yet or no update on the status too.
We had applied for OCI few years ago (3 applications together) and got it processed in less than 6 weeks. This is strange.
Kindly Advise whom to contact for more details on the application. Please share your thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Many Regards
Meera

Dear Members,

I am trying to book OCI appointment however there is a mandatory field
File No./ Application Reference No./Ref No. :

Any idea what this field refer to? Do I need to submit the application first and then only can book appointment?

Is this something recently changed ?

Is https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome correct URL and I need to select NEW OCI Registration

Do we need to register and submit for each family member? and when booking appointment can book it in single slot?

Thanks.

The link you mentioned is for making the application, in other words registration of new OCI, once you have made the application you would get the file number and then book the appointment. you would require as many applications/registrations as people applying ... but they can be submitted during one appointment. you can add those to the appointment while booking.

Thanks dontringthebell.

Quick question on Passport Surrender Certificate for Minor. Do we need to get thumb impression in the application form?

Appreciate your help.
can I use 'OCI Registration Temporary Application ID' which we get before uploading the image and signature ?

Is the Application ID same as the final application ID?

Does any one have been to belfast vfs office from London. What would be the best way to travel? Thanks

Dear Members,

I have few questions regarding OCI application.

1) At the moment I am on career break so officially unemployed , while filling in OCI form , I noticed that in Occupation category , unemployed status is not listed , I called VFS helpline and they asked me to put others in Occupation and mentioned unemployed , also they asked me to write my previous employer detail and phone number If anyone is in similar situation and applied for OCI successfully , can you please guide what should I put here , also which documents have you uploaded as upload limit is only 1MB.

2) In case of Unemployed status should I provide my bank detail - I can't see a place where I can upload my bank detail or covering letter

3) In upload document section i didn't notice any place to upload address proof, surrender certificate or naturalisation certificate , is it recent change ??

Thank you in advance for your help.
