Hi,
I am applying for OCI through a grandfather, I have an appointment with VFS at the weekend.
Therefore, (along with all other documents) I will need to submit my birth certificate (UK), my fathers (Kenya) and my grandfathers (India, post-dated).
I have read in some places that all birth certificates are required to be apostilled by Countries of Issue, however I have also read that this is something rarely enforced.
My understanding of the most up to date guidelines on the HCI London (attached below) is that my birth certificate would need to be apostilled, only if it was post dated. As I am applicant type C, the red text regarding apostilled is only in the box regarding my own birth certificate and not the documents verifying relationship box. Is this correct?
If they all did need to be apostilled, would my grandfathers need to be apostilled or not, as it was still issued in India?

Sorry if I over complicated that. Basically, do any of them need apostille?

https://www.hcilondon.gov.in/docs/16372 ... 112021.pdf
Get your birth certificate apostilled only. Rest should be fine as is.
Don't misconstrue my views for professional immigration advice, just trying to give back to a community that helped me through my journey.

Hi Guys

Should I click 'Final Submit' button on OCI document upload before visiting OCI appointment?

I am thinking not to so that if they ask us to upload any further doc then there will be a chance. Is that correct?

Thanks
Much Appreciated!

You have to do a final submit for them to review your docs at VFS I believe and for you to be able to print your application with the details of supporting docs you uploaded. If there are more docs to be uploaded, believe you can still do it after the appointment.

Thanks for the reply!

I have successfully submitted the OCI application at VFS.

Is it after couple of days that the OCI status page will have something for my application. Currently it says 'No such record'?

Yes. 2-3 working days for them to acknowledge and then 2-3 days from then to get your documents back.

Hi All,

I wanted to understand the the difference between 'Date of application' and 'Date of acknowledgement' for fresh OCI application.

I have submitted 4 fresh OCI applications (me, wife and 2 kids) on this Monday at Hounslow VFS. I got the yellow colour page for each of the submission confirmation. One the same day, in OCI enquiry page it was showing 'No record found' but from next day I can see in the OCI enquiry page it is showing as 'Under Processing'.

I did not get any specific acknowledgement email or letter until today. I can see in OCI timeline people are writing 'Date of application' and 'Date of acknowledgement'. so wanted to understand what are these and how/when do I get acknowledgement.

Also I have not received my original documents too.

Please help me understand, not sure if I missed anything.

Thanks
Amit

The date showing on your OCI enquiry page is the DoA. You will get the docs in a day or two (Bank Holidays might be delaying things).

Timeline for a new OCI registration

Appointment date: 28 April 2022
Appointment location: Birmingham
Acknowledgement: 29 April 2022
Passport & Original Surrender Certificate received back: 3 May 2022
Processed on: Under-Process
OCI Cards received: NA

It's been over five weeks now and there hasn't been any change in status or update on this. How long others have waited before receiving their OCIs through Birmingham consulate? I am eager to travel to India to see parents after the protracted shutdowns due to pandemic and wondering how much more I should be waiting before contacting the consulate/vfs? And also, if it's right on my part to go for a tourist visa in the meantime in case OCI gets delayed beyond 6 weeks. I would much appreciate any clarifications on this.

Thanks.

Should have already received by now. Although they say it will take 4-6 weeks or more. We applied on 13May at VFS Goswell and still waiting. I think you should wait for the OCI than to again put in a fresh new Tourist Visa application [appointment for that will take time + the extra cost]

My uncle applied in Manchester which comes under Birmingham on 20/04/22 and he received his OCI today - that's exactly 7 weeks. Maybe there is a delay with Birmingham mission? According to this, yours should arrive within the next 10 days. Hope this helps you make a decision on the tourist visa.

Thanks for the clarification above.

I have submitted the OCI Application for myself and 3 other family members on 30th may and it’s being 2 weeks now haven’t received my original documents.

I have seen in this thread the documents are returned in a weeks time. Anyone else experiencing delays in original supporting documents returns?

Any guidance on how to check on the documents ??

I applied for my wife on 31st May in Bradford and we have received our supporting doc with in a week. May be you can try reaching to the vfs where you applied and check with them if it is commutable. I was told at the vfs take to their courier than to Royalmail (should not make any difference) saying it is more secure. Ofcourse they are simply making money out of us.
