I am in the process of applying OCI card for my two months old baby. I am a British citizen (through naturalisation) and my wife is still Indian (ILR holder).

I have submitted the application online and I got an appointment for 10/11/2022. I would be grateful if you can answer following questions:

1. Only I am (father) is attending the appointment. I am not taking either baby (applicant) or my wife. Do, I need authorisation letter from wife?

2. I was informed that both parents have to sign the printed application form. I can only see the space for one. Can you please clarify that?

3. Accidentally i made a typo on application reference while booking the appointment, everything else is correct, just typo in the reference number, is that okay?

Thank you in advance
Hi, answers below are per my understanding.
1. I don’t think it’s needed but you can carry one just in case.
2. For my child’s OCI only one parent signed and all went fine.
3. Not sure. I also made typo with Passport number when booking appointment and no issues for me. They didn’t match the details in my case as far as you have an appointment. VFS staff attach a copy of booked appointment with each applicant’s application form.

Are there any recent Goswell road timelines? My application was acknowledged on 7 Oct but still shows “under process” which seems to be slower than the usual Goswell road timeline.

2 x APPLICATIONS 1X ADULT and 1 x Minor
Documents submission date: 07/10/2022
Location: VFS, London - Goswell Road, UK
Acknowledgement: 10/10/2022
Original Doc received:13/10/2022
OCI application status: PROCESSED as of 31/10/2022
OCI Received - 03/11/2022

Overall, really badly run service. Had to wait 4 hrs for my turn, whats the point of appointment if you have to wait 4 hrs? This was my 3rd try as the other 2 times they made some random demands of documents that don't exist on the list.
This time around, I went prepared and even then they asked to upload supporting documents (that are not even on the list) online, under any random category.
So, they took some originals, 2 sets of photocopies and online uploads too. In this day and age, it just doesn't make any sense to do it this way, there were massive bins for shredders going around while i was waiting for 4 hrs...

Also, was charged for SMS and never received a single SMS. Just checked manually and thankfully it was updated online.

My OCI experience

Attended Goswell London on 26 October 2022 to apply for OCI as a foreign spouse.

Didn’t have to wait long, 30 mins but I got turned away at the counter as my wife (OCI holder) wasn’t there. I was told I needed to book another appointment (earliest appointment was 16 November) and come back.

Nowhere online does it say the spouse needs to attend. I had a declaration from my wife saying she was giving consent for me to apply on her basis but the staff refused and said she need to sign the declaration infront of them.

I left but two minutes later came back and asked the security if I can come back with my wife in couple hours. He said no, but said to speak to manager.

Spoke to manager and she said to come back on 27 October 2022 at 8.30. Attended following day with wife and waited over an hour. They accepted the application and made us complete a questionnaire for a video/telephone interview - foreign spouse applications need to attend an interview? Paid £209.44 (I provided my own Royal Mail return envelopes).

This is my status so far

Appointment date: 27 October 2022
Location: London Goswell
Acknowledgement: 28 October 2022
Original documents received: 1 November 2022
Status: under- process (since 28 October 2022).

Hi,

I'm in the process of applying for my 2-year-old son. I'm a British citizen with an OCI and My wife is an Indian Passport holder. I have a few questions as the list of docs are confusing on the site and there are different docs mentioned here.
  • Do I have to take him to the appointment?
  • What are the documents I need to submit?
  • Do they keep any of our passports?
  • Do I need to submit only my docs or my wife's as well
Please if someone can list the docs required for a 2-year old that will be great.

I have an appointment on the 23rd of Nov and we are traveling on the 20th of Jan for my brother's wedding. Is the processing time sufficient.? or should I apply for a visa?

1. No
2. Your passport copies, son's passport copy, birth certificate, address proof, registration certificate, birth certificate
3. No
4. Both

You have more than sufficient time - processing time these days if between 3 to 5 weeks.

Hello,

I will be travelling to India in a few days.

My OCI card has my old passport number as I have now renewed my passport a few months ago.

When my OCI card was made I was 22 years old and now I'm 31 years old.

The passport which has my OCI card stamped on it was made when I was 21 years old.

I've read there's something about doing something after 20 years of age and then 50 years of age.

Will this be okay? Shall I take both passports with me?

You need to update your passport number on the OCI. You do that online and is free. You will need to scan your new passport, and provide new photo. It takes about a month to update but you can still travel while it’s being updated - just print the email that will be sent to you. You won’t get a new OCI booklet as you were already over 20, they will just update it on their end. You wont need to travel with your old passport.

Hi,

We have just taken a photo of my son for OCI at a professional studio. We have taken the picture on a white background. I have just noticed that it says non-white. Is this a problem or will VFS ignore it? Has anyone been sent back with a white background photo?

Please if anyone could respond that would be great.

Thanks,
RB

Mine was off-white / cream background and was accepted. When you upload the photo online, you will know whether it is acceptable or not.

Many thanks for your help.
I didn't take any declaration , not they asked for one. My partner and the kid stayed at home.
I went to the appointment with the required documents, overall it was a smooth appointment, they took my child's original passport, original birth certificate and the rest were all photocopy.
I got my child's original passport in 3 days, will update the post when I get the OCI

Hi,

Did anyone book a weekend appointment for VISA and submit a OCI application. Just curious if VFS will allow or do we have to book a dedicated OCI appointment.

Thanks

Every single document that is mentioned for OCI is what I had. Especially important to upload the parents’ passport pages in 1 file.

Hi all,

I'm a bit worried about my OCI coming in time. My flight for India is on the night of the 6th December.

Documents submission date: 02/11/2022
Location: VFS, London - Goswell Road, UK
Acknowledgement: 03/11/2022
Original Doc received:08/11/2022
OCI application status: PROCESSED as of 24/11/2022

Does processed mean it is printing? Are there other status after this one? For example, "PRINTING" or something similar?

What has been the experience of others in Goswell? I also live in London (Zone 3) so I'm hoping the delivery is quick.

Is the OCI number enough to travel with?

new OCI application

Document submission date: 28/10/2022
Location: Bradford
Acknowledgment: 01/11/2022
Original Doc received:08/11/2022
OCI application status: still being processed

Wonder why some get it processed in a few weeks and others have to wait longer.

Hi - I got mine quite quickly. I believe I had my appointment on the 10th of Oct, at the Hounslow VFS centre. And my certificate was due to be delivered on the 18th of October.

They do say that it could take up to 2 weeks though.
