hi
i think there is big queue at HCI, following are my timelines so far

Date Of Acknowledgment 17-NOV-2009
Registration Status UnderProcess
Photo/Signature Scanned On 16-DEC-2009

cheers
thanks for the update, By the way did you send the application by post? Is the photo/signature scan being done at HCI? Does the Big queue means even if the applications are acknowledged the HCI is not starting the process immediately? Are the applications stuck in HCI and not being sent to Delhi for registration due to hug backlog or some other reson? Too many questions and so little info or update about the applications neither from HCI London or from the online equiry page
hi
i have no clues how HCI works...i got a chance to speak to them in nov before my application was acknowleged and that's the answer i got "Huge Backlog" thats it

cheers
Come on guys be patient....the HCI website says it takes upto 12 weeks to process the OCI application..............although mine took 16days for whole thing...but it does say 12 weeks

I applied in person as the officer on phone told me it would be quicker. Fistly it is acknowledged there and then. I have heard some stories where by post it can take 4-5 weeks just to be ackowledged. Photo and Signature was scanned some 1 6 days later and OCI was granted another 2 days later. Before i knew it my OCI was ready for collection at HCI within 16 days. I figured it would be worth it to have it placed to the top of the pile!!

Just becuase one is sending by post? I hope you agree this is a strange logic being used by HCI.

OCI process

Post by optimist » Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:46 pm

friends
I'm sure this thread has all the info but if anyone can enlighten me about the OCI process.
I got my surrender certificate recently and want to know step by step of doign this.If all our family members(spouse,1 kid) are applying together do we need to fill separate form A or form B etc.. or can we apply as "family group"
and if I want to apply in person what documents are required. Also is there any restriction on photo size(51x51 as website says)

many thanks

You went in person and still you have not got the OCI? I am reading stories on this forum some getting it within 3 weeks?? becuase they did it in person like you!
Can you see in the status if your application has been acknowledged and there is a file number. That is the first step. This page might give you some more info about this process http://www.cgisf.org/oc/onlinestatus.html

if handed in person then it is ACKnowledged there and then...........by post you could be waiting 3-4 weeks for it to be acknowledged............it will sit in a pile on some babu's desk waiting for him to turn up to work.

I surrendered only the current passports for our family and our surrender certificate came back within 10 working days. So it is possible to leave out your cancelled passports. The question is, whether they will come back to us and ask for the cancelled passports upon the OCI application.

Guys,

I want to double check the OCI documents

1) Photocopies of the photo page of valid British Passport.

2) copy of Surrender Certificate of Indian passport

3) Naturalization /Registration Certificate

Is the above documents ok or i am missing something. Is the following document required

School leaving certificate, at least Secondary School onwards from required Board.

I have sent exactly the same documents you have mentioned. Not even the birth certificates of my children because the HCI website now says that anyone document will suffice?? There are many 'ors' in the list of requisite documents which tends to imply that 1 document will be good enough.

I am however awaiting acknowledgement as I have only sent the documents today and hence cannot perceive the embassies judgement at this time.

The whole point is that there maybe other people on the same boat as we are.

I had posted this question elsewhere in this forum too.. But realised that this might be a more apt place...

I have some urgent travel to be done to India in 2 weeks from now and have the below queries on the surrender certificate. I am awaiting reciept of my british passport this week.

1. Do they tell you when to come back and collect the certificate when we submit our documents?
2. How long does it usually take?
3. Would it be possible that we could provide them with a self addressed next day delivery cover for them to post back the certificates?
4. Would we need to provide photocopy of even the empty pages in the passport?

It would be great if someone could please clarify the above. Thanks in advance for your help.

It would be great if someone could please clarify the above. Thanks in advance for your help.

* I did it by post and it came back within 10 working days
* I would assume it will take 4-5 working days in person
* I believe they will accept self addressed envelope if you submit in person
* I did not submit copies of blank pages, but it would be worth taking them if you are in a rush??

Hope this helps...

Thanks a lot for your reply. I did go to the High commision and below is my version of the same :-). Just icase it might be helpful for someone in the future.

1. They do tell you when to come back for collection
2. its 7 calendar days in my case.
3. It is possible for you to provide a self addressed envelope and they would reply back to you.
4. Just the stamped pages in your passport is enough.

I hope i comes back within next week.. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the indian tourist visa??
