Re: Renunciation Certificate mandatory for OCI application?

Hi all
I have followed this thread to get some details of what i needed to do for the application i submitted today (Yesterday!). So though i will put down my experience.
I have done 2 OCI applications earlier (Pre ~September 2023) 1 for adult and 1 for minor. And at that time there was no need of Renunciation certificate.

The application i have recently done (yesterday - 08th April 2024) is for a minor's surrender certificate. During appointment i also manged to speak with the supervisor on the floor of VFS office. I was informed that for a minors even now (post ~sept 2023) there is no need of a Renunciation certificate. and OCI can directly be submitted based on Surrender certificate.
I was also informed that there is no need for me (adult) to apply for a Renunciation certificate as i have already got a OCI, even though this was suggested in one of the websites. It seems that Renunciation certificate is not required for the people who have OCI! at least the VFS person suggested so.

For adults the new process is Surrender certificate --> Renunciation certificate --> OCI. From over hearing another person who was trying to do this for him self on a single day. It seemed that it is possible--> please see previous posts from another person on this thread regarding this topic. I also overheard a bit of conversation of this person with the VFS staff. and the VFS staff was supporting of doing Surrender certificate & Renunciation certificate on a single day. They provide some proof (photocopy of passport with cancelled stamp? or something similar) which can be used for the Renunciation certificate appointment.

Hope this was useful.
