Renunciation process

Post by jacksavvy » Mon Oct 30, 2023 11:38 am

Hello,

For the Renunciation of Indian Citizenship process - do we only have to fill an online form and submit along with all the documents or just like in OCI we have to physically make an appointment to submit the application?

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

1. You need to fill online form and upload required documents
2. Book an appointment with near by India Mission to sign the declaration form
3. Book an with VFS with printed form from online application and submit with the required documents.

Thank you so much for your replies..

As per the gov.in link .. https://cgibirmingham.gov.in/page/display/25

"Applications for Surrender of Indian Passports are no longer received in the consulate. This service has been outsourced to the India Visa Application Center. Applicants are therefore, requested to submit their Applications to the above center. For detail please visit http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/Surrender.html. "

So do I still need to go through point number (2) "Book an appointment with near by India Mission to sign the declaration form" - that you mentioned above or straightaway book an appt with VFS.

By the way, the above link is for CGI Birmingham and I'm in London - but the process will still be the same I presume.

Thanks!

Actually It has two process, you have to do both the Surrender & Renunciation
1. Surrender of Indian Passport - You need to fill the form using https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html. Then book an appointment with VFS to surrender the passport, in this case you don't need to visit Indian Mission
2. Renunciation of Indian Passport - You need to fill the form using https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce. Then book an appointment with Indian mission to sign the form for witenessing. Then book an appointment with VFS to submit the form for processing Renunciation Certificate.

May be you can submit the both the forms on the same day. Hope this helps, still if you confused, I would recommend to walkin to nearest VFS center and clarify all you doubts.

Hi,

I have a query on the renunciation process and would be great to have a clarity from the group.

I have applied for my surrender appointment in the first week of December and trying to get the renunciation process booked.

(i) Do i need to wait for the surrender certificate to book renunciation appointment?

(ii) It's not clear in the HCI guidelines if we need to visit them directly to get the form attested. when i try to fix an appointment, it shows London VFS slots and nothing on the high commission. Do we still need to visit the HCI in London before going to VFS? If i need to visit the HCI, am not able to find a link to book a slot with them

Thanks

Hi har3601,

1) Yes, you need to have your surrender certificate copy. HCI website says you can apply Renunciation and Surrender certificate in parallel but it is lot easier if you have surrendered your Indian passport before Renunciation appointment.

2) If you are based in London, you can book your appointment at VFS Goswell. You get slots only between 3:00pm and 04:00pm. HCI officer comes to VFS Goswell in that 1 hour slot and signs Renunciation form for applicants. For applications outside London, first need a CGI appointment and then VFS appointment. Only VFS Goswell has this option and not VFS Hounslow.

Good luck.

Do we need to have British Passport in hand before applying for surrender and renunciation? or one could apply soon after receiving the certificate of naturalisation? Many thanks!

You need your british passport first.

Hello,
Sorry for asking on someone else thread.
I just filled Renunciation form online and submitted the application. But when I went of payment page it abruptly throw me out and not letting me go in. Do I need to pay online only or can pay there at VFS?

It's a terribly built website/system. Anyway, you can pay at VFS if the online payment system isn't working.
