Steps After Naturalization - Indian passport

Post by amit_sharma90 » Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:40 pm

Hi All,

First of all thanks to the member of this group to provide correct guidance on UK immigration queries. I had benefited a lot and finally got my naturalization application approved.

I am now on the last journey of my visa/immigration/citizenship application and just wanted to understand the steps after Naturalization for Indian passport holder from getting the British passport to OCI.

Please help me know the sequence of events post citizenship certification so that I can plan accordingly.

thanks
amit

Not very much to do ....

Surrender Indian Passport 7-10 days max.
(you can after naturalization but always better to have one Passport in hand before you surrender the other, hence ideally surrender after getting your British Passport. Book appointment at https://www.hcilondon.gov.in/appointment_home/)

OCI 30-40 days max.
(You need surrender certificate for OCI application. Submit OCI application online at https://ociservices.gov.in/ and then book an appointment for submission of application with supporting documents at https://www.hcilondon.gov.in/appointment_home/ )

Once you've surrendered your indian passport you can travel on visa to india & don't necessarily require OCI. However, visas are temporarily suspended due to covid, hence better to get OCI.

You cannot do both together on the same day, hence need two different appointments, also, you can't book two different appointments in one go, so wait until your first one is done.
Don't misconstrue my views for professional immigration advice, just trying to give back to a community that helped me through my journey.

WP-> HSMP-> Tier 2G D-> ILR-> BC-> OCI

Hi

Although the processing times for Surrender Certificate and OCI application are correct, the lead time to get appointment for each of these is 6-8 weeks. Please consider at least 6 weeks to get your appointment for VFS each time. You can't book an appointment unless you have British passport as it asks for your current Passport number while booking a slot.
If you plan as soon as you get passport, you can save a week or two in the entire process.

Thanks
