@prasi. I don't know what the issue was but the status changed to "with dx for delivery" late on the 19th. In any case I missed my OCI appointment on the 20th as the surrender certifiCard was not delivered until 6pm..

Just noticed that my Surrender certificate has got Indian High Commission seal but no sign above Passport Officer text.

Any one faced with the same situation and applied OCI successfully or do I need to get sign in the certificate?

Cheers,

Folks
Apologies for reviving an old thread but I just received my son's surrender certificate and it has the seal but not the sign from the Passport officer. Is this an oversight or would it be acceptable for OCI application.

Did you surrender your Indian passport by personally going to VFS and making a prior appointment or you sent it in the post? Which one is quicker, please?

Hi all

I recently received my 3 year old's British passport. So far she has held an Indian passport. We want to travel to India asap and am not sure what would be the best course of action.
She won't be traveling on her Indian passport as I am aware that that would attract a penalty. Will be applying for OCI once we return back to the UK.
Can I not simply apply for Indian tourist visa on her British passport and submit the Indian passport on returning back?
Pls enlighten.

Regards
Kmaa

How do you book an appointment to take your documents to surrender the passport?

OR it can only be sent in the post?

The surrender Certificate I received had an issue with my father's name printed incorrectly. So went back to VFS Goswell Road on 12/07/2016 to have it corrected. I didn't know that I need to take another pre-paid envelope for the return and was charged £15 for their delivery. There was no charge for the correction and hence didn't have any receipt or proof of submission. The only proof was the tracking number they gave for DX delivery.

Documents submitted: Incorrect Original Surrender Certificate and a form which was provided at the VFS centre explaining the need for correction.

HCI issued surrender certificate : 13/07/2016
VFS Email : No email as this service is not available for correction of Surrender certificate
Online Status (processed): No online status of the processing for correction of Surrender certificate

I am filling in the application form to apply for 3 months tourist visa.

As I was an Indian national previously and recently acquired British citizenship, I am not able to complete this section properly:

Have you ever visited India before: Yes
Last Indian visa – what should I fill in here as I have never applied for a visa before and used to travel on Indian passport.
Furthermore, it asks for type of visa and place of issue – again I haven’t had a visa previously.

Also, do I need to upload a 50x50mm photo or should I take 2 copies of the photo when I go for my appointment?

Do I need a reference from my family in India to support the visa application?

Thanks

Hi,

Can someone please tell me about retention of indian passport after acquiring British Citizenship. When I googled it, it clearly says that for 3 years the fees is £145, but when I called VFSglobal helpline for this topic, the person on line said she dont know anything about this.

So my query is if I decided to retain the indian passport for 3 years by legally paying that £145 fees, can I still apply for OCI on that basis? or its a compulsion to surrender the indian passport in order to get OCI?

Also if in case I am allowed to retain it for 3 years by paying the desired fees, can I use it for travel in those 3 years? and what is grace period?

I am not sure where you got this figure of 145 for 3 years from. The VFS page on Passport Surrender clearly says that the fine is £145 for each use of the passport (or service obtained on the passport) after the grace period. The grace period is 90 days from the date of getting the naturalisation certificate but these days in the UK that is impractical because you have to hand in your BRP within 5 days of receiving your naturalisation certificate. So you can leave the UK on an Indian passport but cannot enter using that same passport as you won't have a BRP. Leaving using one passport and entering using another is NOT recommended.
Also if in case I am allowed to retain it for 3 years by paying the desired fees, can I use it for travel in those 3 years? and what is grace period?
Don't do it. You will put future OCI applications at risk (besides running up huge fines - £1450 for 10 trips made after grace period for example) Surrendering the passport is very quick (2-3 days after applying usually). Getting an OCI if you have a surrender certificate takes about 2 months. Once you have your surrender certificate you can apply for an e-Visa as well.
