Surrendring Indian passport

Hi guys,

Last week my wife submitted an application to surrender her passport and yesterday we received her Surrender certificate and renounced passport.

I've spotted an error on her Indian passport number in the certificate. How do I contact VFS/HCI to correct the error and receive a new certificate.

I have also checked the application form to see if we made any error on the application form. Believe it's an error on their side so hopefully there will be no charge for the amendment including the postage.

I found these email addresses on VFS website Info.ppt-Consularuk@vfshelpline.com and info.inuk@vfshelpline.com. Looking to email them and scan the certificate.

Are there any other email addresses where I can send my query?

I am not willing to make another personal visit to VFS.

My only Indian passport expired in February 2017. I have been naturalised as of 7th March 2018 and would be obtaining my naturalisation certificate and British passport shortly. Self-attested photocopy of Indian passport (All used pages)
Two recent 50 mm * 50 mm size photographs.
Self-attested photocopy of the current British / Foreign Passport
Self-attested photocopy of British / Foreign Naturalisation certificate
Special Delivery Envelope x 2

It looks good. They will need only 1 Special Delivery Envelope, not 2. Also its better to take original British Passport and Original Naturalisation Certificate with you to VFS office for their verification although they will keep self attested photocopies only.

It should be Surname or Last name mentioned in the Passport as well as citizenship certificate. You can call it Maidens name or Father's name ( few states in India has this system of father name as surname/Last name). Keep it like this only, changing will unnecessarily complicate and delay things. You will have to deal with name changing in Indian passport, British passport, Surrender certificate, OCI card !!! Is it that important to put husband name (change surname) ??

Oh now I get it. Its great that Indian High Commission agreed to their mistake and are now putting Name after marriage on Surrender Certificate instead of Maiden Name. This is the name in British Passport, Citizenship certificate too. I dont see any problem in keeping fathers name also in the certificate, probably they took it from the Indian Passport which was done before marriage. That will not cause any problem. Now you need to apply for OCI where both the names in British Passport as well as Surrender certificate are same- name after marriage.

Convention is to put Father's name "Son of" or "Daughter of". This is how I have seen Surrender Certificates.

People who have surrendered Indian passports - when you got the surrender certificate, did you get the passport back along with it?

I have a two valid visas that I need in my current Indian passport (of countries where British passport holders would also require a visa) & I need them back!

Hi everyone

Sorry if it is obvious to everyone else, but in the form it asks for place of issue for the British passport and I can’t find it anywhere on the passport. Did anyone else have this problem ?

Also has anyone sent an A4 envelope with their special delivery envelope to make sure the certificate doesn’t get crumpled in the post ? The sliver packet looks really flimsy to me to send on its own !
