No.

As long as you put the thumb impressions and take necessary paperwork, no need to take the baby with you.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Hi,

Sharing my recent experience in getting Indian passport and brp card for my newborn daughter.

UK BIRTH REGISTRATION

My baby was born on 17 may and we took appointment for uk birth registration by telephone on 21 may. This information was found on red book as well as mentioned by midwife on her first home visit. On 22 May, my husband went to the office and got the birth certificate on the same day itself. They just asked him to write baby’s name in a piece of paper and parents’ names were taken from our passports.Nothing else was needed though we carried red book , hospital discharge summary ,marriage certificate, etc.
We paid £8 for 2 copies.

INDIAN BIRTH REGISTRATION

You need to visit http://www.hcilondon.gov.in/coninfo7
(Home ->Consular Information -> Birth registration of Children eligible for Indian nationality)

which gives all the details of the process.Lots of documents were mentioned on the site, but in reality only the below were asked for during the appointment.

Documents to be carried are as follows

1.Filled in application form with baby’s photo uploaded
2.Original and self attested copy of UK birth certificate
3.Original and self attested copy of parents marriage certificate
4.Original passport and brp card of both parents

Originals were verified and returned back.

They didn’t ask for baby’s photo though we took 2 photos with us.

Amount:£19

We took appointment on 24th may( as there is waiting time of around 2 weeks to get an appointment,so sooner the better)for 5th June from https://www.vfsvisaservice.com/IHC-UK-A ... tInfo.aspx
and checked the status of the application at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/ ... tatus.aspx
by giving the MHA file number (obtained after submitting the application form online
) and went on 20th June after 4:30 pm and received the birth certificate.
You have to wait and they will call out baby’s name.
They asked us to come after 3 weeks to collect but since we checked the status after 10 working days( precisely on the 11th day),we could go and receive it without wasting time.

While taking the appointment you need to select consular services and give UK birth certificate number in passport and OCI registration number columns. Also baby’s first and last name with date of birth need to be entered.

Appointment was at London high commission office and the waiting time was around 1 hour after taking the token, but document submission took less time.
There is only one counter and it took more time as many people who fail to bring the correct documents will submit the missing documents (mostly photocopies) between each appointment.

Indian passport

Please refer http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/uk/pdf/p ... 150315.pdf for step by step process.

You need to fill in the application form online at https://passport.gov.in/nri/index.jsp
and will get a unique number starting with GBR after submission .Thereafter,we took appointment for vfs global passport service on 28th May and got it on 22-June.This was under the impression that we will get Indian birth certificate before that.

Please give the GBR number as passport number and OCI registration number while taking the appointment.
Appointment was at VFS global office,Hounslow and the waiting time was less.

Documents submitted are as follows

1. Original and self attested copy of UK and Indian birth certificates.
2. Application form with baby’s passport size photo pasted(50*50 mm)
3. 3 passport size photographs of baby(50*50 mm)
4. Annexture D can be obtained from http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/uk/NEW_I ... sport.html
5.Authorization letter of parent not appearing
6. Either you need to pay for courier service to get originals and passport or you can give Royal Mail self addressed envelope.
We gave envelope for passport and opted for courier service to get originals as we thought we will get back the originals on the appointment day itself.

Amount:£47.88 including courier service for getting back the originals.

We got originals back on 26th June and passport on 17th Jul(18th working day after submission)SMS was received on 16th July that passport got dispatched.

Now comes the main part Visa(BRP card)

We were confused on what to do as we didn’t have enough time to apply for visa through standard service after getting the passport as we have booked for 20th August flight tickets.
One option which many people had advised was to get visa from India but for that process we need to take baby for the appointment. It was practically not a good idea to make a 4 month old UK born baby travel for around 6 hours to another city from our home town to do biometric.

So we started searching for options to apply for visa parallely to save time and money.

From gov.uk site,we got following information and we then proceeded to fill in the online application.

Children born while you’re in the UK
If you have children while you’re in the UK, you can apply for permission for them to stay.

You must do this if you want to travel in and out of the UK with your child.

When you apply you must send a full UK birth certificate showing the names of both of your child’s parents.

While filling at
https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... /dependant

You can select the option as having no passport and it will automatically be filled as person born in UK.

Once the application has been submitted,we just posted the mandatory documents as mentioned after submission.

1.Original UK birth certificate
2.Two UK passport photos(35*45mm)

Amount:Visa cost plus IHS

We posted the documents on 10th June and took biometric on 11th June.

Biometric appointment letter was obtained on the day of submission of the visa application itself.
You need to go to your nearest post office and just baby’s photo was taken and not any fingerprints.

We got the BRP card on 27thJuly and originals on 26th July.

Amount:£19.20

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Dewdrops

Hi there,

We''ve received our daughter's Birth Registration Document from High Commission on 24th April 2018 and we're ready for her Passport appointment on 1st May 2018. Will share our experience once we're done with this passport submission.

Just a doubt, do we need to have any annexure to be taken along with other documents?

Here's what it says in VFS site, but i guess only Annexure D would be sufficient. Can someone guide us here?

Important Note: All Passport Applications for Minor Children - Renewal or Fresh Passport Applications.

Declaration for change of appearance
Consent of both parents is required in the form of Annexure – D. Please CLICK HERE to download the form.
In case of single parent’s, Annexure – C form will be applicable, as the case may in Lieu of Annexure - D
Hi

Can you please let me know how long time (in terms of weeks) to get the new passport from the date of appointment and submitting the application? Just need this information to plan.

Thanks for your help

Dear board members,

We are expecting a baby in Nov 2018
We are applying for ILR in Sept 2019
We are not planning to travel outside UK before ILR process with the new born.

Is it mandatory to get an Indian birth certificate and Indian passport for the new born ?
Can we not directly apply for the British Citizenship for the new born once our ILR is processed.

Any information on the above would be helpful.
Reason for asking : To save documentation, commute and some money, if in case it is not mandatory

Thank you

Hi. Just sharing my recent experience abt getting new (1st) Indian passport for our newly born son.
I am working in Uk on Tier 2 visa since Aug 2017, living with my dependent wife. Our son was born in Oct in 2018.

Documents needed: UK birth registration certi, HCIL Birth reg certi, parents Marriage certi, 4 passport photos of baby, parents original passport, parents original BRP, declaration of change of appearance, Annexure D, E, Address proof (driving licence, tax bill), only one xerox of all originals self attested by both parents.

Baby's Passport photos should be 50x50 mm, white background (light grey, blue, off white not allowed), should be taken by professional (I would suggest to be done by studio).

Pls visit vfs website: http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/uk/NEW_I ... sport.html for guidance notes.

Procedure:
1. Visit PSK website: https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in/ . Register and sign in.
2. Select the appropriate region of application.
3. Fill the new passport application form online.
4. The address should be same as parents passport. UK address is not allowed. Citizienship of India should be by: Registration/naturalization.
5. Print application form.
6. Book appointment on vfs website and visit vfs center.

My timeline:
- Took few hours to browse vfs website for details.
- 1 hour max to fill online passport form on PSK website.
- Applied on 9/12/18. Got vfs (Goswel) appointment for 4/1/18. I advise to book appointment first and then fill application.
- At vfs office reception staff checked docs and baby's photos. Got called 40 min after scheduled appointment time. Counter officer stated 2 issues: (1) photo was not good (was taken by mobile with skyblue background, not white). So, get photo taken in professional studio with clear white background. Check vfs website for criteria. (2) Address should be same as parents passport. We put our current UK address which was not acceptable.
- I had to make new application on 6/1/19 with address same as parents.
- Got appointment for 31/1/19 for Goswell office. So, we tried our luck as walk-in at Goswell office on 11/1/19 at 10 am, fortunately they allowed us. After waited for 3 hours (were informed abt waiting), finally, application was accepted.
- Paid Dx courirer charge 12 GBP. They don't accept Royal mail 1st class return envelope (costs 13 GBP for 2 envelopes) for walk-in application. Total application fee including Dx courier was 63 GBP.
- Was told that passport will be delivered in 10-15 days.
- Got SMS about application success on 9/2/19 and passport delivered by Dx courier after 1 month around 11/2/19.

Hi Das,

Can you please help me
I am planning to apply visa for my baby without passport and had followed the steps but I cannot see the option to select no passport.
It's asking for nationality, which is not applicable and I cannot proceed further in the application.

Hi,

I tried filling the application form at https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas
Yes,you need to fill the nationality as Indian(Please note that if your baby has Indian birth certificate, then he's Indian),date of birth, place of birth and then country of birth which will take you to next section which asks you, 'do you have passport' to which you fill in as 'no' which again takes you to next question , "You do not have the information in your passport because you have never had a passport (for example, because you were born in the UK)" and rest you can fill successfully.

Please try.

Please try.
Dear Dewdrops,

Thank you very much for your help. Highly appreciated for looking into this.
Do I need to apply for the Indian birth certificate before filling the visa? currently, the baby has only a UK birth certificate.
Do you think I cannot apply without an Indian birth certificate?
And I went to - Tier-2-general work visa/family-members/apply as the child for completing the application is this the correct pathway?
Documents showing you have had at least £630.00 in cash savings for 90 consecutive days- this is my maintenance right? or it should be under child name?

Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Satya

No problem, thank you 😊
I just gave an example about nationality.
We didn’t submit Indian birth certificate.
Yes you need to goto Tier2 general: PBS dependant-Child
Maintenance was confirmed by my sponsor in the COS, so we didn’t have to provide it. Sorry, no idea about the same.

Warm regards,
Dewdrops

Dear Dew Drops,

Thank you, what did you enter for nationality? did you enter your nationality or left it blank.
I think if you enter blank you cannot proceed further in the application.

Thanks,
Sat

We already had Indian birth certificate.Otherwise also, nationality is Indian only if both parents are Indians.
Anyways, they are not asking us proof of nationality.
