Overstayer

Post by breanna » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:32 pm

Hello

I hope someone can help me. I have a friend who overstays her visitors visa and is living in New Jersey. She needs to travel to Nashville Tennessee via the Greyhound bus. My question is what are the requirements if any for this travel as she is an overstayer? She was told that she needs a valid id to purchase a ticket from Greyhound and it must show that she has valid time in the US. She does have a valid passport but as she is an overstayer from January 1, 2009 there is no current time for her to remain in the US in her passport.

Also, she was told that she can apply for an ID which costs around $100 that she can use anywhere in America. Is this correct and possible and how would she go about it?

What type of ID is it, and where did she get this information from? It might well be a fake ID.

What is her nationality, and when did she first enter the US?

From my experience, ticket offices of Greyhound or even people who do ticket checks in the airports (for domestic flights) have no concern for your immigration status.

As for the ID, the only government ID I can think of is state ID: I think it is less than 100 bucks (more like 20-25) and I don't think it is issued to people with temporary (or expired) visas (but I guess that could depend on the state).

It is the ID card that can be used for identification purposes only.

She is Jamaican and she entered around the end of June 2008. She will be 18 years old in March.
