overstaying.....

hi
i applied for SEGS on 20th april and my visa was due to expire on 30th april07. I got decision on 15th may07 and my application for SEGS has been refused. I heard that we can stay for 28 days after the expiry of visa.
I want to know from when the count starts for this 28 days, the date of expiry or the date i got my passport back (15th may07)?

It should be the date you got your passport back (15th May 07)... But I am not sure how the HO would interpret this
