P45

Hi,
i changed my employer from one NHS trust to another NHS trust but i dont remember getting P45 from them.I have got all the relevant documents from my current employer and the P60 but not the one from previous employer as well bcos i worked for short period.Pls can u help me whether if P45 is a necessity or any other documents than can be an alternative?
