UK Partner Questions

Hello all,

I ran a few searches and couldn't find anything which seemed to answer this question.

I am a British Citizen, and have been all my life having been born here etc. I am employed by a British company, but my work takes me overseas for more than half the year (not military).

My partner (unmarried) is from a country outside of the EU, and she too currently works with me for the same British company overseas for a similar period of time.

Obviously when I have finished working overseas I return to the UK and live my life as normal.

However what is the position with regards to my partner if we wanted to live together in the UK and in the near future get married - under what system would she be entitled to live in the UK with me? Would she still be allowed to work for the same British company or would her work have to stop? If that's the case, would she be able to stay living in the UK in my accommodation with me working overseas?

Finally, would she eventually be able to apply for British Citizenship (would that be once we are married or before)?

If you both get married, she could enter on SPOUSE visa, but as we know that you are not married you will need UNMARRIED parnter.

This requires you to return to the UK with your partner to live there permanently plus the following evidence you would have to show

â– any previous marriage or civil partnership that either of you was in has permanently broken down;
â– you have both been living together as if you were married or in a civil partnership for at least 2 years;
â– you both plan to live together permanently;
â– you can support yourselves and any dependants without help from public funds;
â– you have adequate accommodation where you and your dependants can live exclusively and without help from public funds; and
â– you are both at least 21 years old (or 18 years old if either of you is a serving member of HM Forces).

She would be allowed to work for any company once she is in the UK as your partner married or unmarried.

She can apply citizenship once she has qualified for settlement first, getting an ILR which is 2 yrs on a SPOUSE visa (for which you have to get married), no idea about Un-married parnter

But bear in mind that you would be expected to settle in the UK with her.
She would be unable to apply for ILR at the end of the 27 month period if you had been living outside of the UK during this time.
