Passport Application - Countersignatory

Hi

Who do people usually use as a Countersignatory ?

Its a bit confusing to determine who exactly is a "professional" person. I am thinking about a personal friend who works in a IT company and has done his Engineering degree from one of the better Universities in the UK. Is that good enough ??

I am skeptical abt going to my GP as a)he doesnt know me well , b)they charge money for this.

Has anyone's application been rejected because their CounterSignatory werent "professional" enough ?

Thanks for the link - It does help , in some ways - It makes me realise I dont have many "professional" people in my social circle. If Engineer with a professional qualification means someone who has finished his University Degree in Engineering , then Yes - If it means Engineering Degree + more qualifications(membership of some soceity,etc) , then No . So I am as confused as before.

I wonder what wud happen if someone doesnt know any of these people - Its not impossible.

A few years ago I worked for a Computer Software company. It employed lots of computer programmers. Then suddenly it did not! Overnight they were all Software Engineers!

I think any such person who is a member of the British Computer Society certainly comes under the heading of "Engineer (with professional qualifications)".

You have already said it ... doctor ... to which could be added dentist ... etc etc.
