Passport expiring soon

Post by neilroy » Mon Feb 13, 2006 3:08 pm

Hello,
My Indian passport is expring in the month of april. Since i have to do a lot of travel i have left it till the last moment to get it renewed. My question is since it was issued in India, will it be issued by a same day service out of Indian embassy in london. I have left a voice mail but i havent got any answer back from them. Can any body shade some light on this?

It normally takes a couple of weeks to renew the passport from IHC in London. As from this board, and personal experience, it's quite difficult to get any kind of response from them via phone.

If you are in London, it might be better/efficient to go there in person.

One piece of advice I will give you is to makesure you get it renewed BEFORE it actually expires.

My passport was issued in Birmingham and expired in Dec '05. I submitted an application for renewal in Jan '06 and it was ready within two weeks. But they did make me fill extra forms and take Notarised oaths etc. Quite surprised it was that quick, have heard many horror stories of it taking several weeks/months for renewal.

As far as I understand it a Indian passport issued in India needs to be sent back to India for renewal. Apply early to be safe.

You are actully advise not to leave it that late to renew your passport but to renew it at least 6 months in advance.

Agree with mwazir - do not leave it that late. I know people have faced unexpected issues and the renewals have been delayed in many cases.
